I guess this is a "gear" type of thing, so ....
I was at my annual physical and mentioned the occasional "bruise" after playing too long or too hard (ok, better technnique might solve that problem, but...)
My internist suggested getting a can of "Spray and Stretch" by Gebauer. -- its generic for "Norflurane." The spray is used by athletes to get through bruises and sprains while playing. The package insert says it is not supposed to last long. Well, I tried it on a sore finger last night - about 3 seconds of spray - and the pain never returned. I don't think it is over the counter med, but it is non-narcotic so it should be easy to get your internist to write a script. Cost me $17.00 at a local chain pharmacy.

This is really interesting, Raymond, as it is a whole different approach to managing minor injuries - and possibly repetitive stress injuries.
The whole story is at:

I am gonna try to get some for my wrist/thumb tendon problem - I can't take NSAIDS because of hemophilia, so I have almost nothing to combat the problem with except icing, and this is like "smart" icing.

Haven't tried it for "chronic" problems, but it did work for the finger tip pain. My MD is also a sports medicine specialist. He says they use it for repetative stress but combine it with pt. Good luck - and if you try it, please let me know if it helps. |
