Time again for our open mic, Tuesday, Sept, 12th at:
Mission City Coffee Roasting Co, 2221 The Alameda, in Santa Clara
The room is finished and much larger. Way cool!!!
Plus, You don't want to miss a special guest, who happens to be on tour right now in the Bay Area
Take The Alameda, north, off of 880 and it's about two long blocks on your left (just before the Alameda makes the big swing around Santa Clara University)
Signups, as always, will be at 6:30 PM and the first act will be at 7:15.
Thank you once again to Mission City and Sun Jose Hawai`i for sponsoring this event
Mahalo, See ya there!
Kawiks
PS: I will also have tickets available for the Darlene Ahuna Concert, Sept 24, in Santa Cruz. They are also available at TicketWeb

Bruddah Dave,
I'm so bummed that I will have to miss this open mic and the "special guest" due to a business trip. As a consolation though, I got to see and chat with the special guest at the concert tonight, and Kiwini and I were lucky to receive about 30 minutes of free "private" lessons with him at the Monterey Spam Jam a couple of months ago.
Anyhow, all you Bay Area Taropatchers out there should check out Tuesday's open mic. I know it will be very special, and it's a real honor that one of the masters will take time out and support us. Somebody please take pictures so I can weep later.
Wish I could be there.
Aloha,
Doug |

For those of you who missed the Open Mic, our "special guest" was none other than Kevin Brown. The first thing that he said to said in the parking lot was that he wasn't going to "play tonight" then he proceeded to walk up to the stage, prompted by Robert Kam, sit down and play a couple songs with them. The performances by everyone were fantastic. At the end Kevin came up and played a couple more songs, including his wonderful version of Mona Lisa and closed with a very heartful and aloha filled Hawai`i Aloha. Awe, what an evening.

It was a very enjoyable evening at Mission City last night! The new space is much more expansive feeling (an increase of 9 by 36 feet made a big difference!). Good performances all around, and it was very gracious of Kevin to sit in with the Kams and also close the night.
Mission City should work out now to be a very comfortable place to come and play Hawaiian Music once a month. (albeit sometimes with a little trouble parking)

Better lighting and a beer/wine license. But then I suspect all the college kids would mob the place and make so much noise that one could not hear the nahenahe music. Julie |

Ah, Julie, you forget that Santa Clara students are uniquely refined and courteous young men & women. |

And Julie,
You can always have a "tailgate party" beforehand.
