What tuning do you use? I play acoustic steel in Taro Patch G tuning, and I will be on Oahu during the Ukulele Guild of Hawaii Expo in November. Come by and see me if this is what you are interested in.

My suggestion is to try a lesson with Harry Koizumi. I took lessons from Harry while living in Honolulu. Call Coconut Grove Music in Kailua for his contact info. He's teaching six days a week upstairs from the music store. The last time I spoke with him he's also playing Tuesdays for dinner at Duc's Bistro in China Town.

Aloha! My good friend, Bick Giles, could probably show you a few tircks and help you get started. Buck now lives is Kaimuki (Palolo). He used to live in L.A. a t one time playing the circuit. Infact, he was in a band called Resofonics (I think that's the wrong spelling, but...whatever!)

Anyhow, he also did tours and gigs with Bill Tapia. He's a great guy all around and I think you'll benefit.

I hope you are checking this out today because he and I will be playing at the Kapahulu Cafe tonight from about 9pm-11pm. Come down and introduce yourself.

The Kapahulu Cafe is on Kapahulu Ave. right across the street from the Shell gas station and right next door to Pizza Hut. It used to be called Hale Noa (Awa drinking Bar) before changing owners.

Aloha!

Mahalo to konabob, Paul,Fran Guidry, and kanakaboy23 for the information. I am rather late in reading the email, but I will follow up on your suggestions. I play the steel in C6 tuning A C E G A C E G on 8, and C/Bb E G A C E on 6. This is indeed the Aloha Spirit, it's a long trek for me, and the love for the Steel is in me, Mahalo to all once again.

I just wanted to share a picture of one of the students who picked up the acoustic Hawaiian lapsteel at Keoki Kahumoku's camp in early December 06. Jasha Evans is a fine singer, as well as an accomplished ukulele player. She picked up my steel guitar and had it pretty much figured out in a few minutes. Young people seem to have a real advantage that way.

Alan Akaka lives in Kailua. He's a good teacher, and he gives private lessons. I have his phone # at home. I'll post it when I get there.
