Aloha, I was just wondering if the name of the city in Italy and that brand of salami are pronounced like her name, or with an accent on the e. Does anyone know? I don't want to have to go up to a person at the delly, ask for salami, and pronounce it wrong. Also, I'd be nervous about going to Italy, having trouble getting to the city, and pronouncing it wrong when I ask someone for directions. Mahalo.

Ciao! In Italian it is pronounced JEN-o-WAH. Genoa salami is an air cured salami that has previously been soaked in wine prior to curing. It is not a cooked salami. That would be cotto salami. And any kind of cured Italian sausage is "salume". And don't forget sopressata - delizioso!
See the following: http://www.salumicuredmeats.com, the web site of Armandino Batali, Molto Mario's papa, right there in Seattle. |

Be sure to call it "Genova" (emphasis on the first syllable) when you are there, as that's the Italian name for the city. |
