I am asking Andy to post a picture for me of the gentleman who played bass for Martin dem. Does anyone know who he is? He was a great bass player and had a most beautiful singing voice -- they all were so good together. This show was at the Waikiki Marriott on Sunday, April 29.

Mahalo for any help.

That's Alden Levi -- been around the Hawaiian music scene a long, long time as studio musician, backup player, etc. Check the liner notes of some of your favorite island albums, and you'll see his name pop up again and again.

Gotta admit that I cheated -- called Martin at home to get the answer.
I've met Alden quite a few times, but haven't seen him for a few years and didn't recognize his photo. Handsome buggah!

Thanks, Auntie! I was cheating, too. Sent the pic by e-mail to Kathleen & Bla and asked them to send to Martin...just got e-mail back from Kathleen who said she sent it to Martin. You are quicker than cyber-space. Yeah, one handsome buggah. One handsome heart, too.

Mahalo.

Folks - here is what I got back from Kathleen Pahinui:

... his name is Eldon Leo – he was subbing for Aaron Mahi. Also it is George Kuo’s band and Grampa sits in.

Thanks to all who helped. My scrapbook will be pretty darn swell.

I think Auntie Maria's spelling is correct, though. See the third photo at http://starbulletin.com/2004/08/16/features/berger.html.
He did a great job producing Anelaikalani's most recent album.

Alden did a silly dance routine with the class of 1987 at the Kamehameha Schools alumni talent show tonight in Kapalama. He had the oldtimers in stitches with his attempts at breakdancing. He is also a performing member of Pandanus Club, which makes the class' four trophies seem a little suspect because Kenneth Makuakane was one of the judges. Hmmm.
