Just had to share this ...
I was playing a gig yesterday (Sunday) -- a retirement (lawn) party for a professor of Spanish. The family who hosted the party had a labrador retriever whose yard they were using for the party. Not Given the context, the rep. was Latin, however, near the end of the first set I played Ku'u Lei Awapuhi. Not more than a few bars into the piece, the lab came up, parked himself just a few inches in front of me and listened to the whole song -- those with dogs will understand this -- turning his head slightly to one direction, then the other. I went back to the Latin stuff - the dog went away, never to be come up again. Later I asked the family if the dog was born in Hawaii or had been to Hawaii and they said so - they hadn't even been there themselves.
Dogs rule!

Doggies know what's good, who is good, etc. They just feel it!

Oh wow! In that case, do an all Hawaiian music gig at the same place, and I'm sure the dog won't go away from you until you've done your hana hou! Maika'i!

My popoki, Oni-oni, likes da kine. Loves to dance hula with me to "Pua Mana". I think she likes Paul's guitar better than banjo. She also likes to sleep in the guitar case.

Critters and babies feel music, just the way we need to.

Well, I thought I imagined it. Music does sooth the savage beast my dog also comes and lays dfown and cruises while I play. Dogs must love music.

My rabbit comes up to me and lays down if I sing/play Hawaiian music or Disney songs.

Us Dogs just gravitate to da kine. My big goofy Irish Setter will bug everyone until we start playing. Then he just lays there and goes to sleep. Maybe Keith, Kevin and Mark Lennon can attest to this. Jus don't stop playing or hyperboy comes back.

I have two cats that gather to where I am playing and lay on the floor in front of me. In Raymonds story the dog seems to recognized Hawaiian music. In mine the cats don't recognize anything exept they seem to like it when I play. It doesn't even matter how well I play either--and I have tested this out. Poor cats :)

I've witnessed a hummingbird alighting on a nearby plant and sitting still for the length of three songs played on `ukulele. Talk about your good vibrations.
