Mahalo for the spelling, I can only appologise for not having researched it in more depth. My Source for the spelling was ; http://starbulletin.com/1999/06/07/news/briefs.html and http://starbulletin.com/96/10/25/features/story1.html
quote: Don't know what the K.P. supposed to stand for cause her middle name was Namaka'eha.
I can suggest that it's in honour of her adoptive parents Abner Paki and his wife, Laura Konia. Because, in the Queens own words quote: Konia, my foster-mother, was a granddaughter of Kamehameha I., and was married to Paki, also a high chief; their only daughter, Bernice Pauahi, afterwards Mrs. Charles R. Bishop, was therefore my foster-sister.

I forgot to mention that Pat and I are members of
http://hawaiianhistory.org/index.html On their site it states :-
quote: The Library of the Hawaiian Historical Society provides a research collection of printed and manuscript material for use by scholars, historians, history buffs, serious students, Society members, and others in the community interested in the history of Hawai‘i and the Pacific Island area.

Al, if your question was about "Namaka'eha", Sarah and I read that she was given that name because a person in the royal family had an eye infection at the time she was born.

That would have been her mother. And Basil K.P. for Konia and Paki seems plausable. Since her father was Kapa'akea and her mother was Keohokalole. So No initial P there. Shame on the nupepa for spelling the name wrong. I wonder where they got the idea that Lili'uokalani was happiest at Washington place. From what i have learned she spent more time in Waikiki than any where else. She also had a place in Palama the site of the Trust's headquarters. The story goes that her mother in law disliked her intensely (racism?) and they never got along since Washington place was really her mother in laws place to begin with it stood to reason that Lili'uokalani would prefer one of her own places to reside. |

In the queen's own words, she said "Konia, my foster-mother, was a granddaughter of Kamehameha I., and was married to Paki"
Note that Queen Lili‘uokalani put her adoptive MOTHER'S name first whereas any other references I've found to her adoptive parents put Paki's name first. (Just "Google" them and see) 4 results for "Konia and Paki"(matriachal) and 33,200 for the names in patriarchal order
So Queen Lili‘uokalani thought of them as K & P , seems logical then doesn't it ?
To stop any confusion I'd better identify my source :- http://digital.library.upenn.edu/women/liliuokalani/hawaii/hawaii-1.html Paragraph 4 line 2. |

Hey Basil -
Interesting discussion. How does one subscribe to your publication? I'd bet more than a few TPer's would be insterested.
Oh, and speaking of the Croatian connection: somewhere I have an LP of a Tamburitza Orchestra playing what is clearly the source for "Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain." Either that or they were playing "Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain." The liner notes aren't in English and my South Slavic language skills are seriously lacking. |

I was Wanda. I played with Foster and Allen for four years and produced their albums during that period. Their manager Senator Donnie Cassidy (The leader of the Irish senate) is a very close friend of mine and I worked for his record label producing albums for most of his artists. |

Glad you asked Mark, BECAUSE I don't want to BLATANTLY advertise it, as this forum is not the place to do that.. The magazine info can be found here :- http://www.waikiki-islanders.com/html/order_info.html |

Great Jack, delighted you like it, maybe in the next issue I'll Tab "Blue Hawaiian Moonlight" What key and tuning do you prefer ? Pat and I ask you to Please spread the word about our labor of love "Aloha Dream". BTW. That steel Tab is done in logic Audio on a Mac, and it's a laborious job, BUT the print quality is worth it. Basil, have you considered using a dedicated tablature application? Something like G7 or Tabledit (both for the Mac) will make the process less laborious (especially since you can scan sheet music into G7) and give you even higher print quality. I've used Tabledit for years but if I were starting over I would probably go with G7. |
Craig My goal is to be able to play as well as people think I can. |

I've not used it myself - I'm not so good with reading and writing when it comes to music. However, a good friend of mine Keith Hinchliffe, who is an excellent musician and wonderful guitar arranger believes Tabledit to be an excellent program. He says it's the best one for writing. He's had at least one book printed so the quality must be up to it.
Apparently it's very flexible, and allows standard notation as well, and it might save you a lot of your valuable time. There is a version that is 'read only' which is free, and there is a demo version of the programme on the site. http://www.tabledit.com/
What I particularly find useful is that it plays a midi file of the music, so giving me a chance of sussing out how the tune goes - like I say, reading and writing aren't my strong points. Whether the pitch shifts on steel guitar translate to MIDI is something I have my doubts about, but it's definitely worth a pop.
I have never come across G7 - many thanks Craig - I'll have a look for it over the weekend.

I do Blue Hawaiian Moonlight in my C13 tunning (from bottom) Bb C E G A C E G. I swiped it off Gabby, with a little help from Alan Akaka about staying away from open strings. On the cut (Gabbyband V1) Gabby overdubs himself twice - 3 steels for the price of 1! It would be cool if you could sort out each part. It's a cut that I have used for many years to lower my blood pressure. |
