If you’re going to be around the San Francisco Bay Area over the next ten weeks or so you might consider stopping by the Museum of Craft and Folk Art to catch the exhibit “Evolution of the `Ukulele.” The exhibit is scheduled to run through October 21. Looks like it was set up to coincide with the San Francisco Ukulele Festival which is free and takes place in Yerba Buena Gardens on Sept.8, with Jake Shimabukuro performing solo at Herbst Theater the night before. Unfortunately, Jake is not free, but it is a benefit concert.

The museum exhibit is small, but has some pretty cool historic instruments as well as a good selection of modern ones produced by well-known luthiers . Unfortunately, not a hands-on exhibit, except for a few Flukes they keep in one corner to play with. I think admission is free on Tuesdays, but don’t quote me.
