Hawaiian content?!?! Yes, Weird Al and band performed the Hawaiian War Chant a capella in the middle of the show.
For those not aware, Jim Kimo West who has played guitar in Weird Al's band for over 20 years is big into slack key. In fact, his third solo slack key CD will be released soon.
What an entertaining evening. The show was a fun, fast paced 2 hours of rockin' music and costumes, interspersed with video interviews from Al TV. Weird Al is a genius who's longevity has often outlived the careers of artists who's songs he parodied. And the band Jim West (guitar), Ruben Valtierra (keyboard), Jon "Bermuda" Schwartz (drums), and Stephen Jay (bass) are one of the tightest most versatile bands out there playing anything from Nirvana to the Pussycat Dolls to James Blunt to Green Day to Chamillionaire.
Here are some photos from the show at the PNC Bank Arts Center on Sept 12th. A sincere mahalo to Kimo West for his aloha and hospitality.
If Weird Al is coming to your town, I highly recommend making a show. And if you do, please send Kimo aloha from Taropatch.net!
