Completely false assumption on your part, as you cannot possibly know what is in my mind at any given instant:
1) at the moment of starting Taropatch, I did not remember WHO WAS LAST USING THE COMPUTER. In fact, this is a quite common occurrance with shared computers. For instance, on a shared computer such as in a Library or Internet Cafe, you are implying that the current user must be aware of everyone who used the computer before him! (Or carefully check through all the garbage and clutter on the screen (even though it hasn't changed in the last thousand accesses). Both of those options are patently ridiculous!
2) Intelligent software can handle this problem, but the idiots who write this stuff have not figured it out yet, They just want their "cookies" so that advertisers can claim their credits and make their marketing SPAM somewhat more targeted.
4) AND, as I said, there is NO STANDARD PLACE to look for any of these FORUM systems to verify what your logon status is.
5) I am not the only one who has had a problem like this, even on this forum, BOTH Reid (a long time I.T. person) and Julie (A high-density integrated circuit designer), neither of whom are stupid, have had several occurrences of mistaken identity due to this absurdly simple oversight on the part of web programmers.
6) AND This is not the only thing that is wrong with Web software systems, I could list many many idiotic problems.
Question - Do you know what the definition if WYSIWYG is?
It is something which Web Software is still unable to achieve, even thought is was successfully implemented on non-web computers nearly 30 years ago.
7) Also the Neoluddite organization, founded by the folk WHO INVENTED the internet, strongly agree with my position on many of these issues.

quote: Lawrence, please don't send people to GearSlutz <grin>.
It was just the first one I could think of!
(There are lots of other recording sites too, such as Mix Magazines site, etc, etc.)
I agree with you Fran on the equipment issues, a person can buy lots of "esoteric" hardware (and software) that costs lots of money, but yields little in performance! Anyone researching recording equipment will not be able to avoid this issue as it pops up at all these sites.
There is a forum topic on GearSlutz however for the budget conscious:
http://www.gearslutz.com/board/low-end-theory/
In general, as in purchasing nearly anything, mid-scale equipment usually gives the best return on investment.

For all the rest of the folks who don't remember what this thread is all about: The Zoom H2 Recorder.
quote: First impressions? Very favorable, actually.
What I like:
Dual stereo mic capsules -- front and rear. Choose between 2 stereo patterns (90 degrees front or 120 degrees rear) or front & rear two track (great for interviews) or 4-track "surround" Everything important is accessable from front panel - very EZ to use Hardware level setting!!!!!!
What I don't:
Seems pretty flimsy Itty bitty display There's probably something else but I can't think of any at the moment
So, howzit sound? On a first listen -- just fine. I took it to a jam session yesterday and made some tests. I think the little mics are dandy for field use - I really liked the choice of front+rear mics -- worked well for the session where everyone was playing in a circle.
Haven't tried remote mics, ditto testing surround, haven't tried most of the features, in fact.
It runs on two AA batteries & uses cheap flash memory. Comes with a nifty little tabletop stand or mic clip adaptor (yes, mic clip, not mic stand-- fits in a standard Sure mic clip) -- but it is threaded for a camera tripod, so that's handy. Also has a honkin' big windscreen.
Records at all the usual formats -- various WAV and MP3s rez.
Tha's all 4 now.
Hopefully the pi*s*ng contest is over. None of this equipment works well when it gets wet.
