Shiver me timbers.

Love the Pirate team chder. I wonder if the Pittsburgh Pirates use that. Ha-ha. So funny that. Thanks Leilehua for making a bright spot in the day.

You guys should hear Paul with his pirate speak. He's da bomb, and he looks like Blackbeard, too. When we went to the Bahamas one time, a lady wanted to braid his beard. Aaarghhh.

Speaking of which...does anyone remember the 16 men on a dead man's chest, yo-ho-ho and a bottle of rum.

I seem to remember that coming from some Disney episodic TV show in small kid time. Does anyone know what the show was. I am drawing a blank trying to remember what the show was.

Mahalo.

...

Yes - and it's better, of course, to make it up on the fly.

But that was yesterday. Talk like a pirate day is over.

I think they have it on the wrong day anyway. There is only
one celebration of a actual pirate (who founded a city) on the
mainland U.S. that I know of, and that is Gasparilla Day in
Tampa Florida. Seems that they should move the holiday to that
date, because they have been talking like pirates on Gasparilla
Day in Tampa for more than one hundred years, long before the
movie "Treasure Island" was released which started this newly
Popular Postmodern Pirate Parody Paradigm!

Yes- and that is part of the essence of talking like a pirate.

...being as rank as possible!

Good idea!

I'll have to work on one for next year.

But it will no doubt cause a long argument (hopefully in pirate talk) about whether it is truly Slack Key or not.

Arrrrrrghhhh.........

So when is Gasparilla Day,

Avast ye hardies!!

Looks like they turned the event into a whole week.

(no doubt so all the snowbirds can come down and spend more money)

Even Southwest Airlines have gotten into the fray.

http://www.gasparillapiratefest.com/

Looks like it's January 19 to 26.
(Middle of snowbird season for those from places like Ohio)

Here is a picture of the Pirate's "attacking" Tampa.

You can see that there are MORE THAN ALL hands on deck!

Do they let Anne Bonny and Mary Reed play pirate games, too?

I would assume so!

On the serious side, Tampa was Jose' Gaspar's Town, but I imagine that other pirates could come and go, depending upon alliances (and there were few of those). Since Anne Bonny was one of the most ruthless (by most accounts) of all pirates, she would probably have had the credentials to visit. (and maybe she did, since she roamed over almost all of the Caribbean)

However, for the Gasparilla festival all sexes are accommodated. It is all, of course, just a comedic parody of the past. Apparently there are two main events now because there is so much drunken mis-behavior at the "Main" invasion and parade (what happens at Gasparilla stays at Gasparilla ) that they created a second (earlier) series of events more suitable for children. At least, this is what I can glean from the link I posted.

Yes - just a silly excuse to party.

On the other hand, you could do a lot worse...

...you could go to Vegas where it isn't just the pirates that are fake!!
