I have been getting a wide variety of lengths of information to be included with the CD - everything from 1 line to almost a full page. So, I've been think about what to do with this and here's my current solution: I think I will cut and paste everybody's text as they sent it to me, make up one Word document, add a simple table of contents at the top listing the songs in their order on the disk and perfoermer -- and email the document to each contributor. That way each of you can decide how much you want to print and save. Unless I hear an idea that seems more interesting, that's what I'll do. Raymond Stovich San Jose |

Stacey, I'll convert it then put it on a CD with the other San Diego submissions I have and mail it to Raymond via Priority Mail or FedEx depending on when I get it.

Just spent three hours editing six minutes of clam-filled picking down to three that I find merely embarrassing (instead of hurl-myself-off-a-cliff humiliating). "Morning Dew," with apologies to Uncles Eddie and Ray and anyone else within earshot. I'll mail it off before I come to my senses.

Don says you will have the SD contribution on your web site? True? What's the URL? Good sessions with Patrick, huh? |

I plan to submit a track too. I recorded it on Minidisc. Now I just have to get it into my computer, onto a CD and into the mail :^). Thanks Raymond for coordinating this.

Hideki San, Aloha. I must admit I am envious of some of your instruments. A style 4 Wiessenborn! You need to come over to this side of the lake and play awhile. Thank you for taking the time to respond. I think this qualifies as an 'international' site now Andy.
Write more, write often, we want to know whats going on in Japan.....

Chunky Monkey:
I'm not planning on putting the SD contributions on my Web site (I don't have the space), but I am willing to give a CD of the contributions and alternate contributions to anyone in San Diego the next time we get together. Let me know if you want one via email at craig @ patchett.com. I do need to check with the contributors first to make sure that's OK with them.
Yes, the weekend workshop was excellent...I hope Patrick comes down again soon. To the rest of you, if you ever have a chance to get together with Patrick Landeza for a lesson or a workshop (or just to here him play), don't miss it! He's a great guy, an excellent teacher, and (last but not least) an outstanding slack key player (and singer). Mahalo Patrick!
It was nice to see you again too CM!

Yikes, you guys! This is starting to sound like a real professional recording group! I feel so untechnical. Never mind, I can run a huge workstation at the office, but haven't a clue as to how to record a simple song... Besides, I only play nahenahe Hawaiian songs with my little uke. But how I envy you folks with the technical expertise. Looking forward to the end product. Aloha ahiahi kakou, Julie |

Technical?!?! Thank god my minidisc is no more difficult than using a cassette recorder. I played three takes into my MD last night, then loaded it onto my laptop. I really have no idea what to do with cool edit so after dickering around without doing much, I'm emailing it my work so I can burn it to CD tomorrow. Note to self, emailing .wav file takes a long time. Next time bring home a zip drive. |

Julie, on the Mac recording a song can be as easy as:
1. Plug mic or guitar into computer 2. Launch sound application such as Amadeus ($25) 2. Select "Record to New File" from menu 3. Adjust input levels using slider 4. Click record button 5. Play song 6. Click stop button 7. Click OK 8. Select "Save" from menu 9. Choose MP3 format 10. Click OK
That's it...you now have an MP3 with your song (editing your song before you save it...to cut out extra space at the beginning and end, for example, is as easy as deleting text from a word processing document). Burning it onto a CD is a simple matter of importing it into Apple's iTunes, selecting the songs you want on the CD, and clicking a button.
Ignore all the details...my point is that as with today's computers and software anybody can do this stuff. ESPECIALLY if they can run a huge workstation!

Julie,
If you don't want to try the CPatch 10 Step method above (reccommended), then come over to my house. As you know, I am practically on your way home from Alviso (only 5 Min out of the way, assuming you still work in Alviso), and I just happen to have all the recording gear still set up for our cuts. You can bring Larry over too. Must be soon though, because there is not much time left! Also, if you read the first posts you should note that Raymond is planning to send discs only to those who have submitted something.

Hi Mike,
Thanks for your respond to my message. I'll go anywhere if I can play. As one of the lurkers myself, I would like to write more though, my poor english skills restrict me. Anyway, I am now looking forward to hearing all of the submissions from you all! |
