Aloha folks, Just to remind people -- there are copyright and royalty issues when "publishing" music. The format I choose was done so in consultation with a copyright attorney and my own sense of fair play. The idea behind the disk was to share what we sound like with each other. This is, I'm told, within fair use precedents. In addition, since the disk is not being distributed or published beyond the small group, it does not seem that we are in any way violating a composer's rights, including rights to income from their work.
Therefore, I must repeat this -- by sending your disk to me you are agreeing not to duplicate or distribute the disk I send you. (I suppose it's ok to play it for friends.) If you cannot agree to the non-distribution part, please do not submit. If you have already submitted and want to back out, email me.
Also, only those who submit get a copy of the final.
Finally, as I reminder, especially to those who have made a group submission, I'm asking for a contribution of $5.00 per person to cover my costs. If you can;t afford the $5.00, that's ok. It's just that I don't mind the work, but cannot afford to finance all the copies and postage. Raymond Stovich San Jose, CA |

Thanks again Raymond. Keep and eye out for my CD which went out today. Also, thanks for reminding us about the $$$. I'll send it in a separate envelope.
Hideki - Your English appears to be better than many of ours which means your English is excellent. Well, I am very glad you submitted a song. Let your music speak for you first, then I hope you will post more later. |

Lee, I'm sending him an audio CD with five people's contributions, so it shouldn't be a problem.

Craig,
I'm interested in your 10 step recording on a Mac. Ihave a G4 Power Book running OSX and plenty on memory. You mentioned a sound program called Amadeus. I did a Google surch and could not come up with anything that sounded right. Can you tell me where I can purchase it online? Also, any info on a medium priced compatible microphone ? I'm new to recording my tunes but very anxious to hear what I sound like from the other side of the guitar.
Thanks,

Bing, you can find Amadeus (and download a 15-day deom) at:
http://www.hairersoft.com/amadeus.html
As far as microphones are concerned, anything that has an 1/8" plug should work...it's just a matter of how much you want to spend and what kind of quality you're looking for. Ideally you want a mic that will capture at least 40-10KHz, (20-14KHz is better, 20-20KHz is probably overkill). Radio Shack has quite a few inexpensive mics to choose from (radioshack.com), and Sony has a well-rated, medium-priced stereo mic, the ECM-MS907, which you can get for $70 from etronics.com. You can also search some of the music Web sites for other models (zzounds.com, elderly.com, fqms.com, etc.) Bear in mind that vocal mics will shape the sound of the guitar somewhat, and typically won't pick up the bass strings as well as other mics.
Once you see a model that looks good, do a search for the model number at groups.google.com to see what other people have to say about it, and/or check epinions.com.
Hope this helps.

The original topic was Hearing each other play. Andy, what happened to that thread? Its not on taropatch.
I have read some folks making mention of something else? that needs to be urgently added to the cd we send in? LIke a list of influences, name of my agent, etc......what are you talking about?
I sent a cd, with black sharpie writing on it to explain.
Reid, if you need more info, I can drop it in a mailbox I guess. I'll be in San Jose in the morning.

Here's the original link: Hearing Each Other Play quote: RJS wrote: I would suggest keeping under 4 minutes or thereabouts. Please include the name of the piece, author if you know it, arranger of your version, so we can give appropriate credits. Also include the tuning you are playing in and, if you like, the kind of guitar. I would also suggest a VERY SHORT statement of why you chose that piece. It would help me if you include your email or phone so that I can contact you if there is a problem. Whatever you send me will get burned and printed, but if I think there is an error in attribution, I'll contact you. It would help me if you include %5.00 or so to pay for the disk, case, mailer and postage.
Regarding the song info, I was also referring to this post: http://www.taropatch.net/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=539 |

Aloha ahiahi kakou, it's great reading about all the activity regarding the CD. Craig, thanks for the input, but I have a PC, no MAC. And Lawrence, you're a doll for offering but this week is full of meetings and things, so there is no opportunity for "our" meeting at your house for recording. Sigh....
Raymond, are you planning on going to the luau Friday night, Valentine's Day at Aloha Family Restaurant in Milpitas? Theo Chang and the International Flair will be playing. My late "little" brother used to play with her, and so I must make it a point to attend. If you come, I'd love to meet you. Anybody else planning on attending? It should be lots of fun. Julie |

Julie, Sorry, will be elsewhere in V day. Going for the "Romance." Theo Chang typically puts on a good act.
If you're going past Valley Fair some time you might feel like dropping by. Raymond |

You have my deepest sympathies.
Seriously, there's software available for the PC that well let you follow similar steps (at least as far as getting an MP3 is concerned)...my point remains the same (that anyone can do it).
