Sure hope the BCS $$$ help out the UH program to reach many more outstanding student athletes in the Pacific. |

Wishful thinking, but it'd be nice for some of that BCS money to end up in some of the teachers' hands so UH could be more competitive academically. The brain drain from Hawaii is pretty bad.
As far as football, I am interested in seeing if Brennan will make it to the NFL. He seems a bit over hyped to me at this point. Maybe with a proper offensive line he would do better. |

Brennan's success really depends on a strong line. Yesterday, da line no could block fo him at all. Try check out da odda games he wen play in. Wen he get little bit mo time, he's really on da money! As fo him in da NFL, we'll see. It's a totally different game no? I hope he at least gets a chance.

I don't think he is big enough or athletic enough for the NFL in comparison to guys like Vick and Brady.
I don't know if it was because GA put in 2nd/3rd stringers, or what but Graunke looked pretty good when he first got in the game. In retrospect maybe Brennan got a lot of credit that should've been given to the QB coaching and the receivers (Dread Heads). I am not sure, I didn't really follow UH football much until the end of the season.
I do really hope UH gets better academically. That would get me excited.

UH is not bad at all academically, at least in the sciences. I feel like I got a good foundation from dea. It was enough to get through grad school. I had a real good experience dea doing research and studying -- wit da pa`ina's along da way, and da beaches too! UH is a real good bang fo da buck fo locals! |

This is getting off the original topic but since it was already brought up, I can say that speaking as someone who has interviewed and hired many graduate architects from colleges all over the country (and a few foreign colleges too) I can say that they have a terrific architectural program and their engineering graduates are not too shabby either. We would always hire undergraduates for summer and part time work to get a handle on who to make a serious offer to before they left for a job on the mainland.
Back closer to topic: The Fiesta Bowl game going on right now is pretty exciting with the underdogs leading 41-20 into the third quarter! |

that's true Joka. I didn't mean to sound down on UH, they do have some excellent programs. I believe that their biotech research is very good and I know researchers there contributed a lot towards to the development of the internet. On the other hand lots of my friends and family felt it necessary to go away for school (and not just to experience life away from the "rock" Hawaii).
For example, I was talking to a buddy of mine that was in the EE program, and he took five years to get his degree, not because he failed classes, but because they had a shortage of teachers to teach the classes he needed around that time they were having the strikes. I think funding is an issue and I don't think it should be since we don't have many options down here to begin with. That kind of thing is frustrating. It isn't a bad school overall and I don't mean to take anything from UH grads. Sorry if I came across that way. And sorry to derail the thread Joka. |

studentaccount1, i undastand da stress yo friend went through. I was one senior wen dey wen strike too. lucky fo me, none of my classes was cancelled o postponed o anyting. dey jus wen cut material out an pass all of us through, so we could grad. I know da mentality too, fo let us kids get away fo experience da mainland and one odda view of life. Dass why I wen go to CA fo grad school. None of my profs at UH wen ask me fo stay dea. Dey all wen tell me fo go away! I tink was fo da best.
Noplace eva goin replace HI, since dass we I from, an howcome I stay da way I stay. But, I tink if I neva leave, would have choke stuffs I would still take fo granted. Now, I even appreciate life in da city - Honolulu. I hated it dea fo my first 2 yeas of college. Was too busy, crowded, an fast fo me.
Anyways, wen my kids like go school, I goin try sen um UH, if dey like. Carry on da tradition to da 3rd generation eh? Shootz den!

A player named Kawika U'ilani Mitchell kicked butt for the Giants in the Superbowl. He was born and raised in Florida, but must have some island 'ohana. Anyone know more?
