I just wanted ro know if anyone met any TP members on here? I had the opportunity to meet Bryan Tolentino, he is such a sweet, cool guy and the most amazing when he plays his 'ukulele.

Most Taropatch members (especially early ones), first registered
as living on the mainland (starting with Andy in New Jersey, of
course), and the majority of those are in California, maybe because
lots of web-savvy geeks (who like to play Hawaiian music) are in
California.
Anyway, many of us members in California have met each other at
concert events, local workshops and kanikapilas. Many other
Taropatchers are able to meet at the workshops in Hawaii, such as
George Kahumoku's workshop, Keola Beamer's Camp, Ledward Kaapana's
workshop, etc.
Be sure to ask folks at the next concert you go to if they are
Taropatch members. Sometimes they might be wearing a Taropatch
button (with the Taropatch logo). You might want to get one of
these buttons and wear it to your next Hawaiian concert and see
what happens (I sometimes do).
Here is a statistics chart on Membership by State (for the U.S.)
and country, etc (Second to California is Hawaii, hopefully that will
grow to be bigger than California at some point):

Paul and I were lucky enough to experience a bit of serendipity during our trip to O`ahu back in May. We met Fran Guidry, GUke, Mikaele,and I am sorry if I cannot remember everyone else. We just so happened to be at Honey's at the same time they were and we were very fortunate to hear Fran playing his beautiful music. Pure luck to go halfway across the world and meet Taro Patch friends. That was one of the most memorable parts of our vacation.
And I cannot forget Nani from Delaware. She is the one who got me to buy a Kala `ukulele by bringing her toys for me to play with when we went to see Makaha Sons in Maryland. Thanks so much, Nani. |

| I've met the bunch up here in the upper lefthand corner plus Karl Monetti from further up. Hard to meet a nicer bunch. Too bad about the distance, but when we do get together, a fine time is had by all. Also met: Patrick Landeza when he came up to Seattle a couple times. |

Patrick is such a nice young man. Too bad he is not so active in the music world any longer. He is such a wonderful guitar player and singer, and a marvelous teacher. And he is full of aloha. You can tell he learned from Uncle Ray. You can hear the same sweet sounds in his playing (well until you get to the Nintendo song). His Kahuku slack key and Pilipuka are so lovely.
And, it is time for me to haul out his Christmas CD. Don't laugh at me, but I really like how he does the Chipmunk song...."Gee, I want a hula hoop". Sans Alvin, of course. And his Silent Night will give you chicken skin.
I forgot about Patrick as a TP'er. Also, we were fortunate to meet and hear the musical talents of Ray Sowder. |

Some post trip reflections
Since then, I have met with Taropatchers from all over like SCSKS, up north to SF, to the East Coast, the list goes on and on. This community is nothing without the people who are here. I have been fortunate to meet many of you in person. Mahalo for that! |

Hey Andy...
Could you update the stats page?
I notice that the header says it was last updated in February '07.
Would be interesting to see the regional breakdown now that quite
a few more members have joined.
(and hopefully at least declared a region)

Not me though! We came so close to meeting each other at the Makaha Sons concert, pololei? Were you out in the lobby area with all of us after the show? My 'ohana and I didn't see you. Otherwise, I would have definitely come over and said aloha! But I'm glad you at least know what I look like, just in case we may get to see each other someplace else in our future. |
