Aloha, friends....
"Maui Wowi" in West Hills, CA (northwest San Fernando Valley off the 101) is closing after this weekend, sadly. It is a Hawaiian coffee and smoothie shop, kind of a tropical Starbucks with an island vibe. But alas, they don't get enough traffic there I guess, so they are closing...There will be various musicians dropping by both Saturday Dec 1st and Sunday Dec 2nd from around 2-2:30 until closing to help send them off with some music and aloha.
John Neira, Roddy Gregory from the band "O'ahu," myself and other guests from the L.A. area Hawaiian music scene will be dropping by to play for the owners, David and Lynne. Lynne's parents are from the Big Island and love to drop by and listen. Fellow slacker John Neira and I have met there off and on over the past few months as a place to work on songs. Mika-ele has been there a time or two, as well as other players like Roddy and Robert from the band "O'ahu." I guess we'll have to find a new spot..
Here's the map link to Maui Wowi in West Hills. If you're coming from 101 North, take Shoup exit, turn right off fwy and right again onto Shoup. Go several lights to Vanowen and turn left. Go past Fallbrook street and see Maui Wowi on left in the shopping center between Panda Express and a Sushi place...
Saturday there will be music from about 2-2:30 until 7 or 8; Sunday from 2-2:30 until closing (7?).
It's kinda sad that they'll be closing...Good folks running it but just not enough business there to sustain.
If you're in the neighborhood please drop by...bring an instrument if you get...
Aloha, T. Dan
