I no like dem anti-clotting stuffs. Especially the ones they shoot with a needle into your tummy. I like for better the ones that go into an IV or take as a pill. But then again, I also don't like all those twice a day blood tests they do to check if the right level of anti-clot stuff is in your blood (and the nosebleeds ain't too swell neither).

But it sure is swell that they have the ability to do all that stuff and take care of the threat of clots. We sure don't want them visiting his lungs or his heart or his brain.

Jack has our best wishes. I've been making some cards for him today.

I'm back! The neurologists think I had a Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA) sometime early yesterday. No damage. I had 2 kinds of CAT scans, an MRI and a ultrasound of my head (looking for errant or incipient blood clots). Nothing found, but it's good to be careful. It'd be awful to cancel the great progress I've had with a stroke.

OH GOD!

I hate this growing-old stuff! I think we should start a TaroPatch assisted living facility where we can all at least play music together while lying in our beds. (Not lying in bed together!) Didn't someone post something like that way back? Everyone with recent injuries and illnesses, take a deep breath and give thanks for being alive!

So Reid, my son Corey is facing some surgery to his neck, where the doc will be doing something that sounds like car mechanic work, a titanium plate, fusing stuff, but scariest of all, Corey faces a 30% chance of losing his voice. He's a singer! Also one heck of a guitarist. But if he do3es nothing, there is a chance he will be paralyzed. Please tell me there is some other way to go about this surgery stuff.

Mr. no more slipry please. Watch those TIA's. There nothing to ignore.

Lots of aloha and best wishes, Julie

Julie, it depends on what is causing the trouble and how extensive it is, and which vertebrae are being dealt with. I also don't understand why his voice should be impacted. The normal way in is through the back, although, in lumbar spine areas they sometimes go in through the front - but rarely. So other things in the neck are avoided. I don't have enough info to know what is going on. However, make sure that a neurosurgeon, and a good one, is doing the job. Ask the doc how many of these things has he done - if he doesn't say "hundreds", find another. Don't let it be an orthopod - they are good for knees and hips, etc. but not spines. Also, you should always get a second opinion and ask about PT, as well. And look at the CAT and MRI scans yourself to judge what should be done - get educated by all the good med stuff on the web.

Good luck,

...Reid

Jack has a cool looking scar on his neck and his voice is not impacted. Al (Noeau), Gary (Falsetto2002) and I will be schlepping Jack's resophonic guitars, banjo and keyboard around for the PSGW Winter Retreat. Finally, I get to be a roadie!

Yeah, I agree, but as Momi likes to remind me when I complain about the effects of aging...

...it beats the alternative.

Funny...when I was a teenager, I remember my mom and her cronies talking about their miseries and surgeries and scars, etc. every time they got together and I thought, why don't they get a life. Now that is me and my friends.

Julie,

One thing to look up is "Recurrent Laryngeal Nerve".

Jack,

Nice to hear things are looking up.

Things are sloooowly improving. I have some numbness in my feet, so I'm going in this afternoon to get an MRI to check on my neck to see if it's still aligned and what kind of swelling there might be. I'm going to start with my Dobro today to see how it feels. My son is going to set up my Stringmaster this evening (legs, so no have to hold) so I can get going. Thanks again to everyone, and especially to Wanda and Paul - Thanks for the home made card. Y'all are fabulous!
