Jack, mostly feet are enervated by trunks coming from L2. Cervical nerves stop at about your (my) thumbs (dammit!) Especially if your big toes through the middle toe are numb. You might have lumbar issues, too (L1-L5). Don't overlook *anything* about *all* your spine. A standard CAT scan can pick this up - no need for an MRI for this.

Good Luck and I hope it is not anything more than a swollen disc. Man, you had a crash!

We saw him (& thumbstruck) at the Led & Mike show last night (and are just about to go kani with him this morning) - he's looking great and healing up just fine. As he tells it (and if I remember right), the neck doctor has released him to return to work, but the rib doctor hasn't yet.

hi, Wanda. I'm doing fine. BTW, thanks for the cards - I love them! I've been meaning to I'm getting more than a little bored sitting around. Hopefully, I can get back to work soon. The neck doctor released me - I have some muscle pains associated with learning to move my neck around in new ways. However, the # @ #$%^&!! ribs are taking a long time to heal. I can now lie down on my right side (the bad side) and my back, so I can get some sleep, but when I lie on me good side, my right arm has to rest on my bad ribs, and it hurts. Thumbs took me to the Led and Mike Ka'awa concert last night - WOW!, and I've been practicing my steel, trying to learn how to get around on the B11 neck. Thumbs has come over a couple of times to play tines & talk story, and my kids have been fantastic about taking care of me. I am getting about on my own on the bus when I need new reading material or when I get cabin fever. That's about it. - Keaka

Keaka - I know just what you mean about getting bored sitting around. I had the same deal when I broke my collarbone. In my case (and I think for most people) the frustration, and the boredom was far worse than the actual injury. But the thing is - healing takes as long as it takes. A few weeks and you'll really notice the difference. It's hard to be patient though, isn't it?

All right! Woo-hoo. Yippee! It is a wonderful feeling. Even though the car may feel "strange" for a minute or two. That is when I really felt free again. Well, until I had to scrape snow and ice off the windshield. But what the heck...you're free! If I were there I'd give you a hug -- gently, of course, so no hurt da ribs.

Mahalo nui to you all for the interest in my condition. I'm back at work and playing out again! The ribs have finally healed, and my neck has no pain. I still have a partially collapsed lung and some partial numbness in my feet, but they don' bodda me. I'm playing on Friday here at South Seattle Community College in Seattle with Ho'aloha (Danny Kaopuiki, Iwalani Kamahele, Bernie Simeona, Thumbstruck & Gary Madeiros) along with Auntie Manu Lona's Hulau, and on Sunday at a steel guitar extravaganza at the 99 Blues Club on Sunday, plus the ususal kanekapilas. I'm looking forward to picking with Mark on the 30th. Again, mahlao to y'all for caring! - Keaka

You don't play with your feet, anyway.
