Aloha,

I didn't get a lot of response to a kanikapila in Sebastopol; too far for most I guess.
So, how about we gather in Golden Gate Park a weekend day in March? or later this month? Could be Oakland/Berkeley; anywhere Bay-Area central, I don't care.
Anyone up for this? How about it? What day works?
Let's not wait for a workshop to play together! Let's make it happen folks!

Anybody know if there are shelters in case of rain there? Can we reserve?

Or, someone want to host it in SF/Oakland.

Please consider this an enthusiastic yes to any of the above. Or something in Sausalito???? Gather at Eric Schoenberg's in Tiburon? Or I'll host out in Walnut Creek.

You're right about Sebastopol being too far for me. A get together in Golden Gate Park in March sounds like fun (unless it's cold or rainy in which case it's a terrible idea). It's be nice if we could come up with a good back up plan in case the weather's not good. Count me in. Walnut Creek is further than I'd like to drive (but don't consider it a veto, I could be talked into driving that far).

Great Fran! I don't know Eric at all, so I'll let you explore that one if you like.
Sausalito? Do you know a particular place? park etc?

If we all plan on bringing our own folding chair, we'd get more flexibility and could play just about anywhere.

Gary, I agree, having a backup to outdoors would be smart. I'm really hoping we can find something in SF, as it seems to be close to center

Anyone know of a café with lots of space and outdoor/indoor seating? I wouldn't mind having refreshment/nourishment handy.

The Cafe Bazaar on Cali around 24th

http://www.bazaarcafe.com/cgi-local/month.cgi

is a big supporter of music. Their shows start at 7 pm, I would think they might be willing to have us sit in a corner and play for each other during the day.

I didn't have any particular place in mind in Sausalito, it's actually been years since I've been there, but there's a park downtown.

If we want to do Eric's I'll be glad to discuss it with him. He has a lovely board patio area out front.

Hello all,
Diana has just reminded me that Sausalito would be horrible for parking and traffic as there is only one road going through there and it is clogged with mucho tourists on weekends. However, I am very much used to driving and will go almost anywhere to spend time with the slack key ohana. Count me in please.
BTW Ross, Sebastopol is not too far for me. I could make it most anytime.

SF sounds good to me, or anywhere South of that. I have a big back yard with enough covered space to protect, but folks would have to drive down to San Jose.

As far as SF is concerned -- does anyone have a connection at one of the Hawaiian eateries? I organized a get together a few years ago by which an eatery let us have an afternoon in their "back room" and we each put in about $5.00 for munchies -- they supplied tea and coffee, other drinks were "open bar."

Also - I once went to a similar meeting at a coffee house in SF called, I believe" the Zephyr -- out on Balboa if I remember right.

Overall, Saturdays in late morning or early afternoon seem to work best for me. First weekend in March is taken, others seem clear right now.

Hey all,

Just saw this message.

Of course, my vote is for Raymonds house, (thank you Raymond), but thats cause I live in the mts above Santa Cruz.

Anywhere in the central California area is okay by me. I side with Ross on this one, just do it. Sucks for some, works great for others.

We could change it next time around.

I could only a Sunday, or mon, or tue, or wed. But no thurs fri or sat, cause thats when I have to work.

Kick it around. But hey, I'll bring the beer!

Another option would be a nice Hawaiian theme coffee house/cafe located in San Francisco. It is called Kaleo Cafe http://www.kaleocafe.com/. Diana and I attend a ukulele group there every Monday night and they have told me that they could host a guitar get together as well. There would be no cost to us. They would only need a little notice and any day of the week would be possible although Sundays would work well for them. The cafe has coffee, munchies and sandwiches available as well. The place is small but normally has 17 to 20 at the ukulele sessions which is probably more then we would have. If this sounds interestig I could arrange. Sulle'

That sounds good to me Mr. Sullivan. We are tenatively welcome to comming up to SF as well and indoors might be better in March.

Hey Sulle, that café sounds pretty good; I'm pulling-up a map right now to see where it is.

Map for KaLeo Café:
http://maps.yahoo.com/py/maps.py?Pyt=Tmap&addr=1340+Irving+St&city=San+Francisco&state=CA&csz=San+Francisco,+CA+94122-2014&slt=37.763937&sln=-122.472176&zip=94122-2014&country=us&BFKey=&BFCat=&BFClient=&cs=9&name=&desc=&poititle=&poi=&uz=94122&ds=n&mag=9&newmag=8

That might be a good bet for us, and I can scout-out a place in the park for next time. Looks like it's just a block off the park too!

Anyone else been to this place?
Looks a little squeezed inside; enough room for a dozen of us you think? (I'm an optimist!)
How big's their outdoor area?

Raymond, can you make it on a Sunday?

Cafe seems ok.
Sundays would depend on the date -- It's the one day of the week that my wife and I actually devote to time with each other -- so I would have to change Sat and Sunday activities. Name one or two dates and I'll get back to you asap.

Let's look at Sunday the 9th or Sunday the 16th of March and see what people think. Everyone else expressing interest so far has seemed to favor Sunday slightly.

There is also a nice little Hawaiian restaurant caled A Touch of Aloha in Milpitas. I went to a Valentine's Day luau there, and they have it very nicely decorated. Might be worth an inquiry. Don't know how much business they do on a Sat or Sun, since I imagine most of their business is Silicon Valley lunches. Picture pupus with kanikapilas. Should I try to call them? Julie

Ross, currently 9 or 16 can be made ok for me.
Julie, My impression is that the problem with Touch of Aloha is that they previously did not want to open for a small group at other then standard business hours, and with their layout, I think it would be better to go where we wouldn't disturb other diners., Although the further South the better for me.
