Just got "Owana -Wahine Slack 'N Steel" by Owana Salazar. Excellent album -- not purely slack key, but enough there to interest only those in slack key. For those in Hawaiian music in general -- a reall treat. Beautiful clear voice. Nice restrained but expressive steel guitar touches. Very creative interpretations. e.g. Very interesting medley of Hi'ilawe and Waterfall (by Hendrix) -- the Hi'ilawe has some very nice touches in itself; also a very good Makee 'Ailana, and a nice Hula Blues. Truth of the matter is that I found something interesting and beautiful in every cut. (Just to balance it out with "real criticism:" not a lot of "breaks" when she gets into falsetto. {I gotta admit fondness for Lena Machado and a few others.} Still, a very beautiful voice.)
