Good heavens, Alex, I've always enjoyed that great photo of you, tucked into the curl on a tasty wave, carving your way through heavy traffic, and smiling like you've just won the lottery, as all surfers do when they're in their element. You've never said anything in these posts about your blindness and nothing in your impressive profile hints that you can't see - with your eyes, at least. What a terrific and highly accomplished person you are. Learning to surf isn't easy - even for a sighted person. I'll bet there were lots of scary wipe-outs on your way to success and I'll bet also that, after every single one of them, you came up wet and sputtering but still flashing that million dollar smile of yours. Your attitude and all that you've accomplished indicate to me that you'll soldier-on through your present challenge - and you'll come out squarely on top. All of us in your Taro Patch ohana are all pulling for you, Alika, but, any way you slice it, you are now and always will be a winner. Best wishes, David
Aloha,
Do you mind if I call you Kawika, just as everybody on here calls me 'Alika?
Mahalo nui loa for all your kind words. It's so nice to hear from you. BTW, I sent you an add request on Yahoo messenger. Check it out. I hope we can keep in touch.
And btw, no matter how many wipe outs I've already had and I may have in the future, I'll just keep on going. I never let mistakes stop me from accomplishing my many goals in life. |

All right everybody, new news for you!
It turns out that the MRI on my ear was done after school today. It was very long and annoying, but I held as still as I could and got through it. The only thing that the doctors could see from the pictures was an inflamation of the nerve. There's nothing that's pressing on it. Mahalo ke Akua!
Now I'll just have to see if the Prednizone, and possibly another medicine as far as I can remember, do anything for me.
Once again, mahalo to each and every one of you who has posted here for all your support and aloha.

Careful while on Prednisone. It can cause you to get infections, or to worsen any little skin boo-boo you may have. Oh, and don't worry if hair starts growing on your chin. You'll just be like your Auntie Wanda! And you do not even have to worry about Congress investigating steroids. Make sure you have the doctor ween you off prednisone when the time comes. DO NOT abruptly stop taking it. MRIs are pretty icky, all that pounding noise. At least now you can tell everyone you have a magnetic personality.
I'm very glad to hear the news is not as bad as it could have been. Just need to get rid of the inflammation.
Hooray. |

Aloha,
New update!
I had another hearing test today. On Monday I couldn't understand any words, and today I could understand 25 percent of them at a very high volume. On Saturday I'll be having a blood sugar test just to make sure that the Prednizone isn't increasing it, and then I'll be going back to the audiologist on Monday for more hearing tests. I'll keep spreading the news as it becomes available. |

That's wonderful news `Alika! Sorry, I didn't repond to your lovely note, posted on the 18th. I've been offline for a couple of days. I'm honored to make it onto your IM buddy list and I'm looking forward to chatting sometime. Meanwhile, as the steroids continue to work their anti-inflammatory magic, I know you're looking forward to enjoying Hawaiian music in STEREO again. Keep us all posted, okay?
Best regards, Kawika |

Guess what, guys? I'm starting to hear the phone out of my left ear again! It's not as loud as it is in my right ear yet, obviously, but isn't that a big deal still? I think it is. |

Wonderful news! See, the steroids are working their magic. Hang in there. Once the iinflammation is down, it will come back. The fact that it has responded well is a great sign. |
