I just got and listened 3 times to Steve Inglis & Shawn L Moseley,'s Na Po Makole - The Night Rainbow.
Wow -- INHO a must have!!!
A combination of slack key and piano. (The album, and their performance on Pakele Live, labelled it classical, but it sounds like light jazz to me.) With guest Cindy Combs. This is a really interresting album. Lots of depth. I'm sure it will sustain many, many listenings. I love the way it respects and uses more traditional approaches and blends them with very contemporary ones. To my ears, a unique and wonderful sound.
I wrote to Steve that this is THE album I wish I had recorded.

This CD is special in so many different ways -- masterful piano, wonderful slack key, and the addition of Cindy Combs is the icing on this beautiful musical cake! |

Raymond, You know they're playing in Santa Cruz on May 4, yeh? Stephen and Shawn - and Cindy! - with Kalae opening. (Kuumbwa Jazz Center, May 4.)
I got to see them at Pakele live a few weeks ago, and talk about chicken skin - the combo of Shawn's piano and Stephen's guitar...hoooo! Go see 'em in Santa Cruz if you can - I LOVE the CD, but nothing beats hearing them live! |
