A Central Maui halau will mark its fifth anniversary at a concert honoring four extraordinary family traditions in the areas of Hawaiian culture, music, hula and entertainment. Halau Na Hanona Kulike ‘O Pi‘ilani will host the May 17 Ho‘oilina (legacy) event saluting:
• The Beamer ohana of Lahaina and Hawaii island, commemorating the late Aunty Nona Beamer and featuring her son, ki hoalu (slack key guitar) virtuoso, Keola Beamer.
• The Brown ohana of Waiehu, featuring the Ola Hou group.
• The Lake ohana of Kaupo, Ukumehame, Lahaina and Wailuku, featuring Kumu Hula John Keola Lake.
• The Veary ohana of Pukalani, featuring “golden-throated” Aunty Emma Veary.
