Has anyone gone to see are participate at the open mic at Espresso Garden on Bascom in San Jose? A couple Beamer camp alums have played slack key during the Open Mic for acoustic music which is held the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Thursday of every month.

The playing starts at 7:00. Each act has ten minutes or two songs for a max of 20 acts. If you want to play, put your name in the fishbowl by 6:45. As names are drawn, you pick your time (if there's any left).

I've been to the Open Mic and I played there once last year as part of a duo. We did Statesboro Blues (dobro and guitar) and Thrill Is Gone. It wasn't slack key :).

It's a very friendly, supportive crowd. It's run pretty efficiently too.

The website for the Espresso Garden is
http://www.espresso-garden.com/

There's a online calendar where you find the open mic nights.

The open mic is run by South Bay Folks. The rules for the open mic are here:

The Espresso Garden is a fantastic place to see live music. They get some really good acts. The place seats about 100 people max, so every seat is good.
