This is an odd CD -- and Israel didn't write any of these songs; he was just one of many, many musicians who have recorded them. Audio quality needs improving, too.
The folks who created this strange CD, have done similar ones using names of other musicians too: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0014J2GMQ/ref=dm_dp_adp?ie=UTF8&qid=1211764247&sr=1-4

Well, the songs on the other one with that Japanese guy totally ruining them for life weren't written by him either... and these versions are much nicer. I can see it being a favorite for keiki. |

There is no reason the makers of this recording should have used Israel Kamakawiwo`ole's name, othern than to sucker people into buying it because of Iz' name. They are just cashing in on the famous name, and probably Marlene is getting absolutely nothing from them using Iz' name to sell second rate recordings.
The saving grace is that it appears to be all instrumental with the weird sounding vibraphone, so at least they are not butchering the language like they did on that other monstrosity.
I wonder if Marlene could copyright his name or trademark it or something like that?
Plus which, good thing this does not have vocals, on account some of these songs are not appropriate at all for keiki, such as Ahi Wela -- talking about i ka hana a ke aloha. Yow! Definitely hot! |

Wanda, the IZ logo is indeed copyrighted to Marlene. |

If it is copyrighted, then why have people used it still? Just because they think they can flaunt and get away with it? |

I guess using the name is different than using a copyrighted logo. |

And his name isn't copyrighted?
Are other bands/artists' names copyrighted, or are they not? Lots of artists have done recordings that are tributes to popular artists like the Beach Boys, the Beatles, etc. |
