My hula instructor had told me about this.

A few questions:
1. Anybody know if Hoku Zuttermeister will be performing there as well?
2. Andy, will you entertain us all with some slack key again? Please say yes. You were fantastic last year! Maybe we can meet each other.
3. When do tickets go on sale?

He kehau ho'oma'ema'e ke aloha.

Don't know, don't know and don't know.

I will find out. I was honored to have been invited to play last year. Really blew my mind to be among those performers. Would be honored to be asked again; but if not, I would love to make it to that show just to watch it. The crowd was great. Great people in Stratham -- real ʻohana.

1. Doubtful -- but they may include Barry Kimokeo
2. That invite should be extended to Andy again!
3. TBA

For those who are wondering when and where...Saturday, Sept 20 at the Meehan Center in Stratham NH. A call to the Meehan Center might get you a "tickets on sale" date.

The Sons are bringing Barry Kimokeo and Jerome's daughter Kealo. The venue will most likely be the same, but I will post here once I hear it is official. If it's at Meehan, that is the same place. Shaping up to be another great show!

Thanks for the support, Auntie Maria!

Last Friday evening (June 20), the Makaha Sons performed at the Rogue Theater in Grants Pass, Oregon. Opening the show was Hula O'Kahawai (www.hula-ashland.com) who performed the kahiko 'Ke Kaua a Kukauakahi' by Mark Ho'omalu. Next, the Makaha Sons presented a wonderful program featuring Jerome, John, Moon, and Jerome's daughter, Kealo. Southern Oregon was blessed with a great evening filled with beautiful music, dancing, and aloha.

HAWAII COMES TO THE NH SEACOAST
Hawaii’s Most Famous Group Returns for Benefit Concert

7-22-2008

HAMPTON, NH. – If you have dreamed of visiting the islands or long to return, The Makaha Sons, Hawaii’s most beloved group for over 30 years, return to the New Hampshire Seacoast bringing that aloha spirit this September.

An Evening of Aloha with the Makaha Sons and Friends, presented by Cinnamon Rainbows Surf Company will return to the Meehan Center for the Performing Arts at the Cooperative Middle School in Stratham/Exeter, NH on Saturday, September 20 at 7PM.

The night of music will include hula performances by Hui Na Kawaiuaili and Kealo Koko, with musical performances by Margo Reola, Barry Kimokeo, three time Grammy Award Winner Daniel Ho and the Makaha Sons.

The Makaha Sons have been the premier group from Hawaii, with their vibrant sound and amazing harmony that only they can create, have brought the music of the islands and touched the soul of millions around the world. New Hampshire, their only stop in New England, is the first stop on their east coast tour, with New York, Chicago, Clevland and Pittsburgh following. The Sons have been performing in Japan, Carnegie Hall as well as Houston, Nashville, Orlando and New Orleans most recently.

The concert has limited seats and Richard Savastano of Kikenei Productions says they are selling fast. “Everyone that their music touches is amazed by the beautiful harmony. We are honored that they are returning to the Seacoast for their only New England appearance and to help the Pease Greeters.”

The Pease Greeters is a group of dedicated veterans and citizens that help welcome troops to the New Hampshire Seacoast at Pease Tradeport on their way to and from the war on terror around the world.

Ticket are $25 and $30 and are available on line through makahasons.com or Kikenei Productions PO Box 352, Hampton, NH 03842. For more info call 603-812-1514.

Mahalo nui loa! I'm predicting that it will be as good as last year's show, if not better.

Like I said I would do, here are more details:

Some of the members of Hui Na Kawaiuaili opened the show with a kahiko segment, including "Aia La 'O Pele," which I'm currently learning myself. Then Margo Riola sang a few songs and brought some to tears. After that, the performer who may have been my favorite had come on stage, Daniel Ho. Some of his songs had caused me to snap my fingers and sway in my seat. I particularly liked the song about spam from his newest CD with Tia Carrere, in which Barry Kimokeo and the Sons played with him. I was also wowed by Barry's leo ki'eki'e and how flawlessly he did "Riders in the Sky." The Sons were fantastic, just as they were last year. This year, I had gotten to meet all three of them in the lobby for the first time, along with Jerome's daughter Kealo, who provided hula 'auana. They all seemed to be very impressed that I knew 'olelo Hawai'i. If they come back next year, I'm there!

He kehau ho'oma'ema'e ke aloha.
