Gary Haleamau won the Hoku for religious album. Don Narup produced this work for Gary and predicted that Gary would win. Gary is really back. He'll be at the Falsetto Festival in Redondo Beach next month and he will be a regular on Milton Lau's Slack Key Festivals in the islands. He's also working on a traditional Hawaiian music CD and I had heard that he had obtained all the rights to his earlier works. So, I suspect that we'll see some of his older stuff re-released. Catch him if you have the chance; he's a true Hawaiian talent and treasure.
Woo-hoo! He has a most beautiful voice, can yodel like anything, can play the fastest slack key I have ever seen, and is anhthing one could ask for in a musician! His "Adios Ke Aloha" would make you weep. And Keiki Mahine, oh how I love that song!
