Man, is it the end of the month already? Yeah. Good thing first of the month the old pension check comes.
Here are some goodies I found on You Tube this week.
Slack key – week of June 29, 2008
http://youtube.com/watch?v=yM6HOxdBXQ8 – This is a momentous occasion. A current video of Gary Haleamau at the Maui Slack Key Festival. Uiha! The sound is not good at all, but no matter, you still can tell what a beautiful voice and what great ki ho`alu Gary has. And anodda uiha – one Na Hoku winnah! I do not know who his band mates are. If anyone knows, please let us know so they may get the proper accolades and attribution.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=Ri3U8Fe-THE – Our Taro Patch braddah, Doug Fitch, with his beautiful nahenahe music and great hula. Original song, “Kaneohe”.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=e4tAxf3Q7lI – Makana at Maui Slack Key Festival. Recorded by a different person, much, much better sound. And of course, this young man always sounds good, great vocals and darn swell kiho`alu.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=JKC8gOVGcSo – Led Kaapana & Halau o Kekuhi at the grand opening of the National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, DC. Just a little over a month until we get to see them at Wolf Trap.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=cRlryKWRots – Plenty of our Taro Patch friends and Uncle George Kahumoku, et al, at the Maui Slack Key Festival. Here’s anoddah wit’ Norton Buffalo on harmonica. http://youtube.com/watch?v=byz-C3SMR0k Hey – you purists, don’t grouch about the harmonica. Plenty sailors played harmonica. Why, even Dennis Kamakahi and Moe Keale played harmonica. And it sure goes together well. Aside from the fact that this gentleman can really blow dat harp.
http://youtube.com/user/arc14716 - Here is the page for the person who filmed lots of the Maui Slack Key Festival. Can see lots of performers here including, Brother Noland, Hapa, LT Smooth (I do not know who that is).
http://youtube.com/watch?v=H-LAowJWPBs – from jbodhi – Maunaloa. He’s got a nice touch..
http://youtube.com/watch?v=6F5X5KBQ6MY - Santo & Johnny – Sleepwalk. Brings back some memories.
And, last but nby no means, least, let’s revisit our TP brother Fran Guidry’s page on You Tube. He plays so sweetly. And better still, man, he opened for Led. How cool is that? Fran – you’ve got the touch, friend. http://youtube.com/user/franguidry And, if you have not bought Fran’s music, do so. You will like it, I am sure.
