So when you say Vienna, VA, is that the Wolf Trap show with Bros. Caz & Halau Kekuhi? If so, that would be way swell, since Paul and I are going there. I got nice tickets, but yesterday I got in the mail a summons for jury duty that may or may not be over by then. I think I shall call and ask for a postponement, which they will permit for up to 90 days. |

Led's coming back with Mike Kaawa for another leg of the "Force of Nature" tour, celebrating the terrific live CD they recorded last year. They've invited me to open some of their SF Bay Area shows, and naturally I'm looking forward to the fun. Two of these events are outdoors and FREE!!

Hi Wanda, I will be at the Wolf Trap show too, seat FF121. Let's find each other and say hello!
So does this mean we get Mike Kaawa at Wolf Trap too? I HOPE so. The "Force of Nature" CD he made with Led is my number 1 favorite album of the year.

Claudia -- yes, Mike will be performing at Wolf Trap, too. Led will open the 40-minute set as a solo; Mike will join him for the last 20 minutes.
Got this from Led's wife, Sharon...da boss! |

Auntie Maria, Thank you so much for asking Sharon for me! I am thrilled to hear that Led and Mike will play together - they truly are a FORCE OF NATURE.
"Brooklyn", watch out, I plan to play their album over and over on my Jeep's stereo while we drive from NYC to Wolf Trap.... |

The show last night in Dublin was big fun to start the tour, as expected. Dublin is a little bedroom community that's right in the path of the wind and fog rushing inland from the Pacific and the San Francisco Bay, so there were plenty of aloha shirts with sweaters under them and jackets over them, but Led and Mike warmed things up as only they can. There were lots of Taropatch folks and plenty of island expatriates as well. In fact at least one lady was a former Kalapana resident, which make her Led's cousin - as he says, everyone in Kalapana was related.
The city arts director was really pleased with the terrific show Led and Mike put on, and with the great turnout, so I'm hoping we'll see these guys play this venue again in the future.

Congratulations again Fran for a job well done tonight in Santa Cruz. Just some amazing music from Led, Mike and yourself. I know it will be difficult for you to have to re tune all your guitars. After having Led and Mike give them all a test drive the temptation will be not to break the spell and just let them stay as Led and Mike left them. Hope to see you all back in our area again, and soon. |

Eh, Norman, glad you enjoyed the show. The Kuumbwa Jazz Center is a lovely place for music, and the audience sure seemed to be caught up in the fun.
I loved seeing Mike play a little slack key on the six string. I think that's the first time I've seen him play slack key on stage. And "Kaulana Waialua A`o Moloka`i" is a mighty sweet song.
They're off for the KC and DC swing, then we're at the Freight and Salvage in Berkeley on Thursday.

It was very interesting to see Mike play with half as many strings. You could tell he was really focused and eager to try his hand at it. He seemed very "in the moment". It was a great thing to see him break away into something a little different. It was actually a very memorable event. |

Wow, what a show we had at the Freight and Salvage last night. During the day I set up a PA system in the garage so Mike and Led could try out the new guitar Led bought in Virginia, and they could hear some of their new tunes and arrangements with a little punch behind them. Maybe that was the reason, but whatever it was, the guys were on fire! Naturally they never do the tunes they rehearse during the day <grin>, I guess they want to surprise everybody including their wives. But no matter, every tune they pulled out just shone. Led even slowed down "12th Street Rag/Sweet Georgia Brown" just a hair so he could fit even more incredible gymnastics in there.
One surprise, we knew almost no one at the Freight last night. Ordinarily I know (or at least have seen) everyone in the front row and plenty more, but last night was a whole new audience. Slack key and Hawaiian music (and Led and Mike) just keep gathering new fans. I'm sure we got some converts last night.
Tonight, 142 Throckmorton in Mill Valley!
