Aloha from Houston, TX.
New guy to Slack key searchin for the Tab for "Ulupalakua". Anyone know where I can obtain an out of print book by Hal Kinnaman, Title:
Early Hawaiian Slack Key Melodies for the Guitar; 1982. I believe it's in this book.

Tab for `Ulupalakua is in Mark Nelson's excellent slack key tab book, "old time Hawaiian slack key guitar." Here's the link for more info:

(Mark offers an optional CD that has all 19 of the songs tabbed out in the book...it's well-worth the extra $15.) |

Lots of other wonderful arrangements on the CD and in the book, as well. Mark says the project grew out of discussions of what songs every slack-key player should know, and the pieces are very well selected. I've obsessed recently on Kanaka Waiwai; a beautiful arrangement that is still within easy reach for most intermediate players. Even if you don't want the tabs to a particular song, the CD is worth having for the listening pleasure alone. Together, they make an excellent set. |
