Hello, I posted a similar message some months ago, I guess the e-mail here was having difficulties? So if you wrote and I didn't respond last time, I didn't mean nothing by it!
Anyway, I play slack key. I consider myself intermediate level - not that good, not that bad, but still learning. I'm pretty into it. I've had Chris Yeaton and Patrick Landeza as teachers. I like the more Tradewinds Records type of stuff. My favorite Hawaiian albums are Sons of Hawaii - The Folk Music of Hawaii (the one that starts with No Ke Ano Ahiahi) and Ray Kane - Punahele. Uhmmm...I'm mellow and I try to be friendly, I'm 26...
I'm interested in meeting up with somebody (somebodies?) occasionally and playing around with slack key music. For fun, of course, but also because I want to exchange some tricks of the trade, and generally get better at slacking.
Also I can play a little uke and bass and wouldn't mind fooling around with those or other instruments, too. But mostly I'm interested in the guitar.
We could meet at an apartment or park or anywhere - only, I hate driving so preferably I could take BART there, or it's an easy drive from Oakland, or it's my apartment...
Tuesday nights or Weekend afternoons?
Hope something works out!
Jeffrey

Oaklandslacker! How far are you from Puget Sound? You should try to connect with Stacey and the rest of the gang! You'll be amongst friends that too are just learning like you! They've all been bitten by the "Slack Key Bug", and are having a really great time with it. Or you and the rest of them can come and join myself and my "Bruddah" Kevin Brown along with rest of our gang here in Maui, Hawaii! Keep"slacking" Oaklandslacker! No give up! Have fun!

Aloha oaklandslacker! You are very welcome to join us Bay Area Slack Key players at my place in Sunnyvale on May 18th or June 1st(we're still deciding, but leaning towards May 18th). Sunnyvale's not very far from Oakland. Perhaps you'll connect with someone from your vicinity. It's bound to be a fun Kanikajammapila with good music, vibes & food! |
