I thought more ukesters would see the ad in the Uke Talk forum, as the event is specifically about ukuleles. I could take the other ad off if there is a rule about double posting. Nevertheless, slackers are invited and can bring their instruments for the play along. Slack guitar and ukulele is the perfect match.
I know I don't contribute much to the taropatch except when I self promote. 'Scuse yeah! The patch is a great resource and I respect what admin has given us. I humbly defer to the other patchers in regards to postings. I don't have very good posting skills. In other words, my foot taste junk.
Anyway. I am in Hawaii to perform with my group of students at the Starbucks, 38th Annual Ukulele Festival in Waikiki on Sunday, July 27 at 10am. And then, Back to CA for the SF Aloha Festival, Aug 2 and 3. I am giving free ukulele workshops on both days. All are welcome. See you there. Hiram |

| Kudos to you for bringing your students to Waikiki. What a logistics wonder. Will be cheering for you guys Sunday. Have a great performance! (Do ukers say "break a leg" or something along that line?). |

| By the way, is this Hiram Bell related to that great police sergeant Hiram Bell of Honolulu Police of yesteryear? Sergeant Hiram Bell was a cop's cop, a great role model, one of Honolulu's finest. Ask any old timer cop about him and you will get nothing but great raves of this wonderful man who has gone to that big luau in the sky. I will dedicate a song to his memory at the annual HPD Ohana luau on August 22 at Aunty Sally's Luau house in Hilo. Me ke aloha pumehana. |

Mahalo Uncle Dave. You are very kind. Were you on the police force also? My dad retired from the police force after 25 years service. He was not only a cops cop, he was also a friend to all those he arrested, helpng many a poor soul to see the better path. Police and criminals alike, respected him equally. He loved being a cop and cared for his men and treated them like his own children.
He also sang and strummed his old Kamaka pineapple uke to the 3 or 4 songs he knew, much to the consternation of my mom who would scold him for messing up the Hawaiian words.
Mahalo Uncle, for dedicating a song to him at aunt Sally's Luau House in Hilo on the 22nd. It will be on the day after what would have been his 79th birthday on the island that he was born and raised on(in Kohala). He loved Hawaiian music and a good luau and I can still hear him singing Noka Pueo.

Great to see you posting again. Principal Andy must have let you out of detention   . I second your comment about slack key guitar and ukulele being a perfect match--they sound so sweet together.
Yeah, I'm trying to round up folks for an informal kani at the Aloha Festival on Sunday, Aug. 3, 9:00A, http://www.taropatch.net/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=7089 . Hope you and Kit can join us.

Aloha David. I had to chuckle when I read your post, 'cuz I always wondered about it when I saw either of your (yours and hikabe's) names.
I, however, shall require you use your former skills...
Hiram, I am a relative newcomer here at TP, but I have always read your posts with interest...err..excitement?  Anyway, good luck at the festivals and with your Berkeley gig. Aloha!

Aloha no Hiram. Yes, your dad was one of the mentors of us young rookies back in old HPD. He was always training his men at every opportunity. And all of them rose up to top level ranks. Yes he did mention his Kohala roots. I will sing a Kohala song in his memory at the HPD old timers luau and tell the gang there what it's all about --the majority who wil be there certainly remembers your dad - - guys like Larry Mehau, Bobby Schmidt, Joe Aveiro, Dickie Fujita, Butch Cox, Dave Kamalani, Boyd Andrade, et al. It's an annual gathering of old timers to honor the comrades who went to the last roll call in the sky. Boyd Andrade reads the long list on the honor roll which includes your dad.

Was great. My good friend, Rudy Trubitt, sat in on guitar. We had a good group of people in the house. Everyone seemed to have as good a time as Rudy and I. Mike DaSilvas Ukulele Co. is a fascinating venue with nice acoustics. Mike had a single barrel microphone in front of us. It was great to play unplugged for a change. We did a pretty good version of Jessica by the Allman Bros. We also did Pua Lilia, Palolo, Opihi Moi Moi, Walking after Midnight, Hene Hene, and a bunch of other stuff. I think we'll do it again soon. tanks eh...
