Aloha All -
Take the drive up to the Mendocino Coast for the first Caspar Community Luau.
Hawaiian Luau at the Caspar Community Center, August 9 starting at 6 pm with a full tropical buffet dinner, music by Kevin Brown, Robyn Mahealani Kneubuhl, Mark Kailana Nelson, Hui Arago with special guests, and dancers of O Lei Palaoa.

Robyn, Kevin and I are all teaching at Lark again this year. Looking forward to seeing some old and new friends.
Caspar is a tiny town right on the coast between Mendocino and Fort Bragg. Well worth the drive-it is one of the most beautiful places on earth. I don't have to tell you Bay-Areans about the wineries in Anderson Valley, do I?

Eh Howzit Mark ?
We're looking forward to seeing you, Kevin and Robyn at Lark Camp. The Luau should be a lot of fun . I'm in charge of poi and beer. We'll be serving Hanalei Poi Company Poi and Lagunitas Brewery beer( thanx for the generous donation ).
I'm looking forward to next week. A week in the Redwoods playing music, followed by a Luau ! Life is good!
A hui hou!

The First Caspar Luau was an unqualified success!
Mahalos to every one in Caspar for the hard work, and a big hat's off to Michael for bird dogging this one through. The food was onolicious, the people friendly and warm-- heck, even the weather was friendly and warm.
Hui Arago opened the show with a delightful set, including some wonderful dancing by Michael's sister Phyllis. The look on her mom & dad's faces was so sweet!
Then we set up the big band: Robyn Knuebuhl, Kalae Miles, Kevin Brown, local wonder boy David Brown (now renamed Kawika) on lap steel, Larry Prather on bass and yrs truly on whatever else wasn't being played at the moment. O Lei O Palaoa, three beautiful local dancers, did a great job, and we had additional dances from Robyn, Kalae, and a very surprised Larry and Julie H.
Looks like this one's going to be an annual event, so plan on being there next year, the Saturday after Lark Camp. Heck, come to Lark, too, and take slack key with Kevin, hula with Robyn, slack key & uke with me... and, if enough people request it, kane hula and vocal technique with Kalae.
Mahalo plenty, Micheal & MB-- this was one of the most enjoyable gigs I've played in years. |
