Lotsa swell stuff this week. And Tuesday I get to see Ledward dem at Wolf Trap and meet Slpry1, Nani, Claudia, Ben, woo-hoo. Members of our TP `ohana have been very busy this week. New videos by Duke, Jesse, Fran, Bolo, Keonepax

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nZUN_n0xka8 In case you haven’t seen it yet, here is Duke’s latest – Punahoa Special. Go Dukie, Go Dukie, Go Dukie.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p6GTEBLiHUA – Our friend, Jesse Tinsley entertaining us once again. This time we have Na Ka Pueo on `ukulele and Ka Lei E on guitar and last but not least, one of my personal favorite songs, Pua Lililehua. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5YNsv80hH9A Thanks Jesse for the swell music. We are still waiting for da Jesse Tinsley CD. Where is it Brah? You've got enough material for a CD already.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BMdzJq9-Y8I – Here is a Fran Guidry Original – Waialua Slack Key – ever so sweet and beautiful.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X6TOSLFcgnI – Our Taro Patch brother, Bolo, has some swell videos on You Tube. He never ceases to amaze me. If you are on Big Island, go see him in person. It has got to be spectacular.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rVcxu76khuE – Our new Taro Patch braddah, John Pak. (Keonepax) – Loving You. Welcome to da Patch, John. Thanks for showing us how to have fun with the `ukulele on more than traditional Hawaiian music. I can tell you are having fun! Your skills as a film maker are top notch, as well.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XYoRIQvU8Gg - Slackkey808 - Oh, can young Zack ever play the guitar. Does it not amaze you his talent, especially for a young man? Thanks, Zack for making such nice music for us to listen to. Thanks Uncle Duke for e1ncouraging Zack.

http://www.youtube.com/user/thetikitorch - There are a great number of videos posted by this user. Artists range from Weldon Kekauoha to Mihana Souza to Bros. Cazimero to more contemporary music. When you get spare time you might want to visit this site time and again to see the wide variety of videos posted.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=stzCLgbukak – Here is our Taro Patch braddah, Gary Medeiros, at this year’s NW Folk Life Festival. Oh, Gary, so very nice. What a voice. Can’t wait for the CD.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=16KEBvpT1_8 – Hapa – Lei Pikake – This is about as pretty of a song as I have heard. You’ve probably seen this on the Songs of Aloha video.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CKpG4-CI88k - `Ukulele Underground performance at Island Bazaar in Huntington Beach, CA. Bobby Tomei - Playing Morning Dew.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=70g2p1tRv3o – a nine-year-old working diligently until he can play Morning Dew without mess ups. You can see his frustration, but his perseverance as well, despite distractions such as a giant spider. Then, after he gets it down, he breaks out into a faster piece of unknown origin. If this young man keeps it up, I am sure he will someday be a successful `ukulele stylist.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cUHYPSh83Fw - A musical of the life of Queen Lili`uokalani done in Tokyo, Japan 2007. The Queen is portrayed by Aukele Siangco of O`ahu and the soloist is Pohai Kalima of the famous Kalima family. The ho`ike is called, "A Portrait of A Queen."

That's the show that we spoke of in the Folklife thread earlier. Generally these days, I play bass with this halau, and don't sing. But four days before the festival, our kumu hula and her husband (who make up half the band) had to go back to Hawai`i for two funerals, and planned to substitute CDs for the halau's show.

I said "no CDs - I'll go back to `ukulele, as I can sing most of the songs we're doing, and I can recruit other musicians to help." So, over the course of four days, mostly by e-mail, we "rehearsed" the set - including the premiere of a brand-new song that was written and choreographed only a few months prior, at a hula workshop.

The musicians I recruited did a top-notch job. Not only Gary, but also Al (noeau) on guitar and Keaka (slipry1) jumping in on bass, and our regular slide guitarist, Uncle Pat Brougham, who has been with the halau for nearly twenty years.

One of the dancers' husbands videoed the entire performance - someday, maybe I'll put some of it into the hands of a YouTuber, and we'll get more of the show up there. Thanks to Jesse for that teaser snippet from the performance!

P.S.) Kory (thumbstruck) would have been with us, too, but he had to lead a workshop at that same time, busy man that he be.

Here is another cool link I found: Check out the sweet `ukulele playing by Unko Peter Delapina and the cool double neck `ukulele. Very nice, very fine. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vxh03Wg-fLE&feature=related

Gregg - man, get more video for us. You guys just have good fun, alla time. Ask Jesse how to put them on there or Al, since he put the nice stuff on you tube and even the noodles.

I showed Led Duke's "Punahoa Special" and he was thrilled. Led said that Duke really captured the sound and feel of Uncle Fred playing his signature piece.

And the gentleman posting the UFO videos is Brudda Bu. If you haven't been to http://www.geocities.com/~ukulele/ it's definitely worth a visit.

I read somewhere on the internet about Iz's "cyber `ohana", and about Braddah Bu. I think maybe it was written by Braddah Bu's wife. But I cannot remember where I saw it. It really was quite touching. Braddah Ed - -you wen chat wit Iz onna computah? Dat is WAY cool. For me, it is like a fairy tale, because I did not even learn about Iz until he had been make for several years. It seems to be a very small world, doesn't it. Seems like we always can find someone who has a direct connection to someone else, who knows someone else, .... well you get my drift. This is way cool.

And how cool is it that Led listened to Duke's music????? WOW! I feel like the proud Mama. But the important thing is not only how good Duke plays, but that he plays from his heart. You can feel it in the music.

It is mind boggling to think of all the talented folks who visit Taro Patch, some regularly, some time to time, some only lurking. Way cool.
