News from the Shannon Center - Whittier CA:

"WORDS, EARTH & ALOHA" -- free showing
DATE: Sunday, August 24, 2008
TIME: 3:00 p.m.
A special showing of the award winning documentary of one the sources of today's Hawaiian music. In Hawai'i, music has always been much more than a form of entertainment. Through the centuries it has been a primary means of cultural continuity. This documentary pays tribute to a range of composers who flourished between the 1870's and the 1920's, and for whom Hawaiian was still a first language. The film explores the poetry and play of Hawaiian lyrics, as well as the places and features of the natural world that inspired songs still loved and listened to today. This showing is free of charge and open to the public

We have watched this DVD several times, and pick up something we missed or forgot each time. It would be extra special on a large screen. If copies are still available, get 'em before this special showing makes it sell out. No telling when/if The Hawaiian Legacy foundation will be able to afford to reissue the older films. Several are currently unavailable. And all thae ones we've found are repeat players in our house.
