Check out the telephone interview that I did on 8-19-08 with Uncle Cyril.
We wanted to help spread the word about some upcoming concerts he will be doing in Northern California in late August and September.
And of course we wanted to hear how he felt about the "Gabby Pahinui Waimanalo Kanikapila", that was recently held.
I was honored and thrilled to have been able to spend a few minutes talking with him. The heartfelt emotion just blew me away.
Go to the Radio Station website www.kapu.org and click on the link that says "Norm Interviews Cyril Pahinui"
This direct link should also work.

When he was describing his experiences there, I had so many different images and sounds flashing in my mind. I was just trying to keep up with it all. It truly was chicken skin for me at the time. |

Norm - this is a treasure that needs to be saved for posterity. Not only did I get moist-eyed from the Hi`ilawe/Waipio story, but this is the official torch passing to the next generation. He said they had a family meeting and officially appointed Martin's son Gabby, the luna of the Waimanalo festival henceforth. What a wonderful interview. Mahalo to you for doing it and sharing it with us, and most of all, mahalo to Cyril for opening up his heart. |
