Aloha kakou! We had a fun show yesterday, with the Voggy Mountain Ramblers joining in for a "history of Hawaiian Music theme." I have not performed with them since they opened for Laurie Lewis and Tom Rozem at the Palace some years ago, so this was a bit of a blast from the past!
August 20, Leina`ala Lassiter, and her guest will take the stage with a Paniolo theme, as this is the Year of the Paniolo. Leina`ala is an incredible vocalist, `ukulele player, hula dancer, and horsewoman. She comes from a strong Paniolo background, and her Nana and aunty are in the Paniolo Hall of Fame.
August 27, Sam Kama joins Leina`ala for a look at some traditions of his `ohana. Sam and his `ohana teach coconut basket weaving and other traditional Hawaiian arts. Sam, as a young boy, was featured in a very cute film, Moke, the Magic Menehune, and has graciously allowed us to show this rare footage at the Palace Theater. September Preview: September 3, we honor Queen Lili`uokalani. A fine musician, Her Royal Highness wrote many beloved songs which are today performed around the world. She was born September 2, 1838. A transitional figure, she saw many changes to her beloved Hawai`i before her death on November 11, 1917. September 10, Aunty Mary Ann Lim joins Hawai`iana Live! for the second time. The gracious matriarch of the Lim `ohana is simply a delight to work with, on-stage and off. Hope to see you there! Malama pono, Leilehua
