Only indicative of the size of their hearts, my friends. Az y dey get choke aloha.

When we were visiting last May and Jay and Duke made such a lovely beach picnic/kanikapila for us, I invited two well known Hawaiian musicians. One was flattered that we invited him, although he never went because I was not sure where it was going to be held. The second one said he never participated in kanikapilas because people were intimidated by his talent and his extraordinary singing voice and they all ended up just wanting to listen to him instead of everyone playing together. He said people would tell him, nah, nah, brah, I sing junk, you mo bettah. So he stopped doing kanis.

Bottom line is both professional musicians did want to kani with regular folks to have fun. That's what they were looking for -- just having fun, without the pressure of making a living from it. The pros just like to have good fun, too.

Me ke aloha
Malama pono,
Wanda

Shua! Maybe one day I can make it to O`ahu again. Usually I have stuff going on and hard to break away. But with the $$$ of fares, it ain't easy to get back to O`ahu.

I am trying to put together something here. Nothing fancy...'jes some old-style back yard kani. One fun day down at the beach. Maybe pulehu some meat...(Oh yeah! Throw one whole kala on da fire!) Or some beef ribs and some na`au wai u! BYOS (soda)...BYOB (???)...no mattah. Who like come Maui? No fogget...if you come, you gotta listen to me try sing at least one song!

Aloha,

I love it! I am so happy you guys are getting together. I know Jack and Kory will have a great time with Duke and Jay and any other of you guys they hang with.

Just think, this all started when Duke put his videos on You Tube and then sweet Jay added that killer rhythm and then I spocked their videos and shared them with our TP `ohana and Duke had been lurking, and the rest, as they say, is history. What a year it has been for music on O`ahu!

Aloha Everyone,

Just wanted to remind you all that we have a kanikapila scheduled at Higher Ground Cafe in Wahiawa this Saturday, January 10th, from 2 to 4 p.m. We may stay later than 4 if everyone is having fun (which of course we always do!). Put it in your calendars and we'll see you there!

A Hui Hou, Lanet and the Abrigo Ohana
