I do not understand why so hard to find folks to play with in Hawai`i. When Paul and I have been there, all Paul has to do is sit outside with his guitar and strangers come up to him and ask to jam They have all been kama`aina. Crikey, we was playing on da beach with Duke & Jay and Jay brings over some tenderoni with a very short dress. I'm thinking Rizalina gonna bip Jay, but turns out was Kaimane Gardner. She was boppiing down Kalakaua Blvd. and Jay gets her to stop and play a bit for us.

And then in the families, so many members of one family play music. And den, even da keiki get music lessons in school, learn to play `ukulele at a young age.

And when peepo watch Duke & Jay's videos, they almost are weeping they love the music so much and say they miss the back yard kanis.

All you gotta do is get a couple of you Taro Patch guys togeddah. Word gonna spread, but only if you guys spread the word. If you build it they will come.

Me ke aloha

Me too Aunty... i guess what you're saying is "if you not part of the solution, you part of da problem.." In that case, maybe I'm part of the problem.

I kinda shy (go figure) so I don't like just going up to people I don't know.

I think maybe I need to make more of an effort to reach out to other musicians.

If you are from Palolo and you are shy to jam, you must live on the Carlos Long side of the Valley!

There are a couple of musicians who love to play who live on the right side of dinosaur mountain. All the way up 10th ave, take a right on Waimao Road, right on Kuhea. Bring a case of beer, they got the food. You need to know your stuff though. Let me know if you want to go and I'll give you their number.
There are a lot of musicians from the valley. Ahe street has a group that sit outside near the fire station in the evenings and jam. The uke and guitar player are nice guys, but the location is volatile.
Cyril Pahanui is host to a jam in Nanakuli. Go to it if you are serious about getting together with people.
Sit at the university music department and strum some. Those guys know where the jams are. Read the bulletin boards on campus. Put up notices on the board. Attend open mics.

Too bad you are shy. It's hard to break out. I am very shy myself. But I never hesitate to play music with anyone. If you don't have a strong passion to play music, try golf.

it's true... it is kinda rough being the shy type and having a passion for music. it is a pretty horrible combination. anyways, thanks for the advice (though the closest i will ever get to a golf course is playing Wii Golf.. lol)..

anyways, i am always up to jam though, just kinda shy to ask strangers if I can play with them.. usually i just try watch, listen and learn if i see other people playing.

So yeah, for real, you think your friends up 10th would let me play with them? I can get da beer, no problem...

Don't forget -- there are two kanikapilas this weekend where you get chance for jam with all kiind of peepo like the Abrigo `ohana, Doug Fitch and Mike Keale at Higher Ground Cafe and also jam with Cyril Pahinui and their `ohana and friends on Waimanalo. Check out the Kanikapila threads for particulars.

Look, how cool is this. You want kanis, now get two fun chances to jam with the best of the best. How swell is that? You guys better take advantage of these opportunities, otherwise I do not want to hear any more complaining that there is no one to kani with. You get two more chances right now than we get here in Ohio. All I can do is watch Duke & Ja and Zack-Boy and Jesse and our other friends ontop da you tube.

Make the kanis popular. If you build it, they will come.

Aloha!

We are all on the same page with this idea, but on different pages of the taropatch.net site. I want to invite everyone here to look at the Kanikapila forum here on the taropatch.net website. Click on "All Forums" on the upper left of this screen, then "Kanikapila Forum", then "Kanikapila O'ahu" started by "abrigoohana". We have a Kanikapila here on O'ahu TOMORROW at Higher Ground Cafe in Wahiawa. It has been created JUST FOR YOU! If we need more dates than the once a month that is scheduled, we can work on that. Just let me know and we'll see what we can do.

Just posted to Peter Moon, Jr.'s topic requesting a jam session for the younger generation. I'm willing to help that become reality too. Just let me know what you want, and I'll see what I can help with. COME TOMORROW and kanikapila (jam Hawaiian style!) at Higher Ground Cafe!

The higher ground sounds like an excellent place to jam. Might be intimidating with the pros showing up. Wish I could be there. Have a good time...
