I tend toward mellow, but if there is great talent (like you, Mr. Bolo), it can be a refreshing difference. I do not like noise and speed just for the sake of noise and speed.
But mellow, ah....I like stuff so sweet and beautiful it brings tears to the eyes. Az y I love to hear Martin Pahinui sing. Or Kalae Miles. Or Hoku Zuttermeister. Or Jerry Santos. Or Jesse Tinsley. Or Uluwehi Guerrero. Or....... |

I like all kinds, but I listen to Gabby nowadays and find myself thinking he plays too fast. Wow! I am getting really old.

| Plenty of room for both, and everything in between. It's all good, if you ask me. Sometimes 'less is more' but equally importantly, sometimes 'more is more'. It's all about the context - the moment. Bolofusion, your 'shredding' that I saw on the internet made me grin like an idiot it was so much fun! Thanks very much for that! |

some people are kind of know for a certain style.
for myself i love music period, but im ,at this point ,know for sherdding style, but i think i have more mellow stuff than that, new cd
called "BACK" has mellow Hawaiian stuff as well as new cd to be release called "Creating Ha" slack key classical with Andy Rising on cello can be seen on myspace.com/bolomusic222.
just wanted some feed back, now i can write my book lol (one day)

Na brah, personally I wouldn't consider your music "shredding" per se.
much
When I think of "shredding" I think like Van Halen/tight pants/distorted stuff which is cool for like 15 minutes. I could listen to your music for much much longer than that. :) |

| The music you have ontop da you tube with da cello, I listened to that soon as you wen post em an dat why I know you can play anykine. Mellow and beautiful dat was. I would nava though about cello but was so nice with guitar. You make very good music, Brah. |

Someone please define shredding. Anyone can play slow and mellow. But who is considered a shredder? I've seen a lot of advertisements that promise shredding. Then I am unimpressed after the concert. It's safe to say Van Halen shreds on the guitar. But does Leonard Kwan? Or Gabby? People who advertise use the term loosely. I don't always agree with writeups by promoters who exagerate to sell tickets. I hate that. Or enthusiastic fans trying to play up their favorites.
Perhaps the comparison is between fast paced energetic music that is machanically not easy to play as opposed to slower paced soft music that is easy to get behind. Why is there a question anyway?
The fact is that slack key is not really considered a shredding genre. Of course it could be. Ukulele is more a shredding instrument. |
