Everyone has an opinion on any given subject. Shoots, I even argue with myself, but when I win, I also lose!
Because we are on the planet for such a short amount of time (it may seem otherwise at times in business meetings, church, school, etc) we feel the need to appreciate and preserve what we value. A friend of mine told me that everyone needs to be wanted, needed, and appreciated. In this Forum, Hawaiian Culture, primarily music, is discussed and debated. I, for my part, have benefitted from the interchanges. I might not agree with everything everyone says, but, like I say, if everyone played only ukulele, who'd play guitar, or steel, or bass? Innovation has been and continues to be part of the tradition, but like John Hartford said, "Style is based on limitations." It ain't basketball unless you play by the rules.
I am thankful for the good people I have met and get to play music with. This has added a dimension of sanity to this crazy world.
I am also thankful for digital tuners.

The Talk Story forum is the most dangerous! Too many feelings, too much room for that old "between the lines" interpretation. Maybe its time for Ole Pupule to lock up that Daniel Ho thread, eh? Den mebbe we get one mo'olelo from Braddah Duke again...?
Aloha,
Allen

I'm here to learn. Sometimes, I spout a thought based on what I think I've learned - and I get some support and I get some respectful flack. Which helps me learn some more. Thanks for that, to those who are still here and to those who have left us.

I learn a LOT when I play music with others, with those who are "better" than me, and those who think I can teach them something.

Everybody tuned up (digitally or no)? Kay den ... in G, two vamps ... a-one, a-two, a-youknowwhattodo...

Thanks all. it ainʻt dangerous if people have no fear to speak out. I learn from others too. Gregg is sometimes my bass layer when I do gigs. I have played in many shows with Kory. Locking out threads sometimes is skating pretty close to censorship. If one may not speak their mind here where will they? Nah, some guys no can handle but it is all a learning experience. Cannot sugar coat cultural experience with PC ism. So lets all of us just move on and learn all we can. Practice hoʻihi and be haʻahaʻa.

No'eau, eia au he mea pa'ani wale nō.

We have all learned so much from each other, but I really have to tell you that the knowledge I have gained from my two bolohead brothers goes beyond the pale. There are bound to be squabbles and ill feelings generated just like in any family. But the important thing for a family to do is stick together. Duke has a kuleana that he is trying to handle. I respect him immensely for that. We all have a kuleana, and it is wonderful when someone clearly knows what that responsibility is abd takes decisive action to do what needs to be done. If he leaves this forum, I can feel better about by knowing that for a short time here, his kuleana has been to teach us about music, about humilty, about respect, about how to be a good friend, a true friend and mostly about aloha. That is the intertwining vine in all the various topics on Taro Patch -- aloha. Aloha for the music, aloha for the history, aloha for the customs, aloha for the people, aloha for the 'aina, aloha for the kaukau. When you lay your heart bare for all to see, you risk having it hurt.

But I for one can ensure you that a damaged hard can indeed be fixed if you want it to be.

Everyone here is a mosaic in the intricate pattern that is being put together as my life. Some of you have contributed bigger pieces of tile than others, but all the pieces are fitting in where they are supposed to be, when they are supposed to be.

I thank you all.

Me ke aloha
Malama pono,
Wanda

The weak have always been at the mercy of those in power. Material/technical/numerical advantage has not always been coupled with moral imperitive. All of mankind's songs deal with love, disappointment, love of land, family etc. Some cultural pockets have been less affected or only more recently affected by the "mainstream" comercialism. We are drawn to the humanity of such.
BTW, I like sour poi.
