Your Lucky Day: Free Kauai Trips, Concerts!!
This Friday the 13th will be really lucky for six couples -- and still pretty good for everyone else who attends the Kauai Visitors Bureau free festival at One Market Plaza today from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
The lunchtime event will include drawings for six free trips for two to the Garden Isle, plus Hawaiian music by Kauai falsetto master and ukulele player Nick Castillo (follow the link for sample tracks of his achingly beautiful vocals -- http://www.mele.com/music/artist/nick+castillo/in+dreams/), with hula by Miss Garden Isle Noelani Kau'i.
Giveaways of Kauai Coffee, Kauai Kookies and other Kauai-made products will also be part of the festivities. And in case you're wondering where the winners of the free trips will stay, the Kauai Marriott Resort and Beach Club, the Westin Princeville Ocean Resort Villas and the Sheraton Kauai Resort are sponsors. You can see some of the enchanting landscape of the Garden Isle they'll get to explore, and the hula inspired by it.
The Kauai celebration in San Francisco is part of the month long "Hawai'i: A Thousand Reasons to Smile" marketing campaign in the Bay Area, which includes an online trip contest and an Aloha Friday Pau Hana concert series at the three Gordon Biersch brewpubs in the Bay Area. I had a blast at the inaugural concert in Palo Alto last week, pleasantly surprised by the free orchid leis, a little surprised by the size of the li hing margaritas and not at all surprised by the high quality of the entertainment (by local opener Kawika Alfiche and headliner Mailani Makainai). Tonight's lineup:
# San Francisco, 2 Harrison St.: Steven Espaniola (5-7 p.m.), Cyril Pahinui (8 to 11 p.m.)
# Palo Alto, 640 Emerson St.: Kawika Alfiche (5-7), Keli'i Kaneali'i (8 to 11)
# San Jose, 33 East San Fernando St.: Aloha Brewed (5 to 7), John Cruz (8 to 11)
