Our band, Hui Arago has been given the honor of being the opening act at the 33rd Mateel Summer Arts Festival, June 6,7 at Benbow Lake State Park in Southern Humboldt County. In addition to Marybeth (ukulele, vocals) and myself (guitar, vocals), we will have our ukulele player Dennis Hudson and local steel guitar legend Peter Childs. Pete's an amazing player who has played with Jessie Colin Young, Linda Ronstadt, Fred Neil and Peter, Paul and Mary. As well he played with the Kuo, Pahinui, Mahi band at last years KMUD Aloha BBQ. We will also have our usual hula dancer Phyllis O'Dea with us.
Summer Arts kicks off the festival season on the North Coast, 4 stages, 100 bands over two days. We begin the whole thing Saturday morning at 10 a.m. on the Main/Tree Stage. Headliners at this years event include Peppino D'Agostino and slide guitarist Roy Rogers. Me, I'm looking forward to the set by Insects vs.Robots. http://www.mateel.org/summerarts.php
