DO NOT MISS THE WORKSHOP! Cyril did one up here in the upper left hand corner of the map (Seattle--cue seagull Retro) and it was GREAT! |

Unfortunately I can't make Cyril's Long Beach Workshop on Saturday but I WILL be at the Boulevard Music concert this Friday, June 5: http://boulevardmusic.com/livemusic/44.html
Who will I see there?
- Kathie
PS: Boulevard Music just put up a new Web site last week and it's really nice: http://www.boulevardmusic.com Something else new at Boulevard Music.. they're adding a 2nd floor to their shop. Boulevard Music and McCabes are my favorite West Los Angeles guitar shops. Sure is nice to see my favorites growing instead of shrinking! __________________________________

My wife Debbie & I will be there...I used to work in Culver City not far from Boulevard Music and spent several lunch hours browsing their inventory. Bought a uke and a resonator square nut there...Also saw a couple of concerts there. Nice little shop with good folks running it.

Hi Andy, Show Friday night is $17.50, show Sunday is $15... just a mis-posting. Cyril's worth way more than that so I'll be seeing taropatchers there! Aloha!!! by the way, we have multiple threads going - - - sorry, Andy. |

had such a great time last night - as a bonus, my friend danced hula to Nani Kaua'i, made my night! only thing is I kind of blew it by not getting there earlier to sit more in the front to be able to see Cyril's fingers but am looking forward to the workshop this morning. Nice to see Dick & Linda, T-Dan, Pua Kai and a bunch of others there, too!
please, if you can, be sure to attend the performance in Claremont tomorrow (Sunday)! thanks to Shakeh for setting this all up |

Great show...Good to see you, Mitch & see your friend dance hula on one song behind Cyril. I sat behind an extra tall guy in the middle and was blocked from seeing sometimes...Lots of leaning left and leaning right to try and see around him, but it was great. Cyril was in good form... Wish I could make the workshop but I'm working my day job today and at Back Home in Lahaina tonight with O'ahu... Have a great weekend, everyone!

i took Uncle Cyril's workshop Saturday, Scott Hillman came, too. it was fun - first time i'd ever actually played in his tuning, I really like it and can see how it is pretty versatile with the ability to do alternating bass with both the 3rd and 5th. i'm going to totally practice this!! |

John Keawe's B-flat tuning is the same fingering but a whole step down. That was a pleasant surprise to me, as I've put some mileage on that since '06 when I met John at Keola's camp on Moloka'i. John taught his "Hana Pipi" and "Hawai'i's Hope" in that tuning. I've written a few of my own since, and here's a link to where I used one of those compositions as background music for one of my animation reels:

That one is called "Jus' Messin'"
It was an inspiration to see Cyril play the whole night in his C tuning and get such variety out of it.
Eh, Mitch, I heard you on the Piko series on Hawaiian Concert Guide... You're everywhere! |
