Have you ever tried steel strings on your classical? Don't wince; there really are some made with low tension for a classical guitar. I've tried & enjoyed them. They are less than 90 pounds total tension, down in medium tension nylon string range.
One is John Pearse Folk Series. The basses are metal wound nylon floss, just like standard classical strings. The trebles are from the ThomastiK-Infeld Classic S Rope Core Series, K116. I don't know what the "rope" in Rope Core is. The trebles in both sets are plain wire wrapped with a nylon tape. They all have ball ends; you don't tie wire around your tieboard. Both are very nice and give you that steel string-like sound on your familiar guitar. Some persons describe the sound as in-betwen nylon and steel. I think it's closer to steel than nylon.
You do have to pay a premium for all that fun. The John Pearse strings are $13.84 and the T-I's are $17.95 at www.juststrings.com
Thanks for the information Pauline. I have never tried steel strings on my classical guitars before but you have peaked my interest. I'm going search around here first for the strings before I purchase them online. I'll try them on my "beach" guitar first. Mahalo again and aloha!
