I just started a new Yahoo Group for Slack Key in the San Francisco Bay Area open to everybody. Please post your Show or concert dates, open mics or what ever. The group is open for discussions also!

Way to go Don, and welcome to Taropatch.
I just joined the 'society' call me member #8.
I don't know how familiar you are with our forum, but we've quite a few slackers here in the Bay Area. In fact, a large part of them are at this very moment over at Stacey's having a BBQ/KihoAlu fest !
Write often, say whats on your mind, and again, welcome to Taropatch.

Don, Please don't take this as an attack -- I'm looking for some more info, that's all -- I have limited time to spend on chat groups, etc. What do you envision your Yahoo site adding to what is available for SFBay slack key people on this site? What is Yahoo's policy on giving out info once we "register" with them? Mahalo Raymond San Jose

Hi Don,
As a huge fan of slack key, I registered at your Yahoo! group but personally hope all those in the SF Bay area continue posting your local events and comments here.
I love reading about your get togethers and everything else. Looking forward to a report about Stacey's house (well, the get together at her house, not about her actual house.) |

Aloha Raymond,
If you have a limited time on the internet I think Slack Key SF Bay would work... Besides having a site to go to you can get all your messages as email (AKA listserver) As the group gets busier you may want to set your seetings to "digest" so you only get one big message rather than many small ones.
The purpose of the group is a meeting place for people interested in Slack Key who live, tour or visiting the SF Bay Area. Remember this is YOUR group... It' will be what you make of it.

Oooops,
Sorry Raymond.... Last question... I have been involved with Yahoo Groups for a few years now.... I also run "FARTS" Fremont Amateur Radio Transmitter Society" . I have not had any problems. If you are concerned you may want to create a Yahoo or Hot Hail email account and have your messages sent there. Yahoo email has a spam filter. Most of the better servers now have spam filters... Security has not been an isue with Yahoo....

I have a generic complaint about Yahoo. I wish they would filter their own flashing, bouncing, annoying spam in groups, mail accounts, web pages, et al. Web hosting, like lunch, is never free. |

Pauline, I agree with you. I started out using Yahoo on their list servers... Then we were forced to convert to the "Groups"... At that time a number of us left Yahoo Groups and started up at MSN... After a time that didn't work out too well and we returned to Yahoo.... Yahoo is Free.. They do need to generate funds some how. Some of the problem is with your software and server. At home I use ATT Broad band and they do a good job of screening out a lot of SPAM and pop ups.... But the server I use at work is horrible... Pop ups drive me nutz... So I totaly understand. You might look into software to screen out pop ups. Many of us are "starving musicians and artists"... So Yahoo fits our pocket book... Maybe some of the computer experts have some suggestions?

BaZerklY,
You're welcome to post your thoughts and experiences here, but so far it seems you are merely trolling for members for your newly created Yahoo! group. Even though you are not selling something, to me, it seems to be bordering on SPAM.
I'm all for perpetuating the art of slack key and those who are doing what they can to help out. Therefore, I'm not trying to come down on you but simply letting you know my thoughts drawn from your posts so far.
If I'm wrong, people, please tell me. |

Andy,
I remember a teen-ager trying to start up a classical guitar discussion group; "Come to my site for great talk on classical guitars, better than what you can find anywhere else" he posted, right there on an existing site (the e-borneo site). Member reaction was mainly, "Huh? Why move?" (If Mr. BaZerklY's list of guitars is actual, then he may be older than a teen.) |

When all my needs are being met as well as they are here, why look elsewhere? Of course, there are four flavors of ice cream and 3 flavors of shave ice that I tend to keep coming back to, also. Maybe BaZerklY just didn't check this site out closely before he started his own. Raymond San Jose |

My thoughts on this matter are very much like yours Andy. I almost posted a similar message when this thread started but dicided to wait and see what others thought. It was made clear sometime back that this is not to become an advertising forum. I hope this policy will always be the case. Sulle' |
