Mark your calendars -- the annual San Francisco Aloha Festival is just around the corner: http://www.pica-org.org/AlohaFest/index.html
This is consistently the largest gathering of Pacific Islanders (and fans!) in northern California...and it's FREE! Musicians and dancers on stage all day -- featuring the traditions of Hawai`i, Tahiti, Samoa, Tonga, and Atearoa (New Zealand). And vendors -- crafts, food, clothing, food, jewelry, food...and did I mention, food?
Watch their website for updates re: workshops, etc.

So who's going to be there? I'll probably drop by this Saturday and will try to join the Mele Ukulele and Slack Key Guitar workshops. |

Aloha Hans, I'm gonna be there, as is Doug Wong from Monterey and ...Jon from Half-Moon Bay, both TaroPatchers. I'll be singing in the Hawai`ian choir, Na Leo Nahenahe, at 10:30 Saturday, so look for the tall guy in the back row, that's me. Come introduce yourself after we sing! or e-mail me and we can connect there. Doug and I are bringing our guitars. Ross |

Aaaargh! I wanted to go this year, but my halau hula is dancing for the Hapa (reconstituted) concert in Santa Cruz that night. Practice and sound checks start at 3:00 PM. So I thought this Festival was only on the 2nd, am I wrong? Things happening there on the 3rd as well? Maybe I can go then... Aloha, Julie |

As a New Zealander I feel obligated to post a correction...it's "Aotearoa", not "Atearoa". (Translates to "Land of the Long White Cloud.") |
Craig My goal is to be able to play as well as people think I can. |

Hello Julie,
The show and workshop agenda looks even heavier on the 3rd than on the 2nd. If I recall correctly, there will be two ukulele workshops and one slack-key workshop on Sunday. Use Auntie Maria's link to find the schedule in PDF format.
I and my family will only be there on Saturday though. |
