Cord International informed me via e-mail that they will be re-releasing the complete early recordings of Leonard Kwan in about two months. It was great news to me because I have been searching for a recording of "Nahenahe" ever since I learned it from his red slack key instruction book. If anyone has that book, you know that it does not come with any music. And I have since found out that it is only available on old LP's, which is why I emailed Cord International.
"Nahenahe" is one of my favorite tunes and I think that it is very appropriately titled. For me, it brings back memories of childhood camping trips in the country when his music first became popular. And I did get to see Leonard (along with Ray Kane, George Kuo, Oz Kotani and others) perform at the Academy of Arts in Honolulu several years ago.
I don't know why it took me so long to finally learn to play. I will watch the Cord International web site and post a note when it becomes available for anyone who is interested.
Aloha,

I hope the quality is better than Uncle Ray's release...while the older tracks weren't too bad, I have a much better recording of "Nanakuli's Raymond Kane" than the one they used for the CD.
John, send me an email at craig @ patchett.com...I can loan you a copy of "Nahenahe" until the CD is released.
Andy, the email link is broken again.
Okay - the email link is fixed! -Admin |
Craig My goal is to be able to play as well as people think I can. |
