I've been playing phone tag with a local player named Chris Yeaton. In one of our exchanges I learned that he's presenting an acoustic guitar show a few blocks from our house. The Woodsong series is intended to provide amatuer players with some concert experience. Tonight's venue was the School House Cultural Center Theatre in Pleasant Hill, CA.

Chris opened the show with "Moe `Uhane," then mixed slack key with his original fingerstyle pieces and a DeGrassi tune. Chris shared his set with Simon Russell, a keyboard player, as well as another fingerstyle composer (who's name I've lost). He was followed by Teja Gerken, of "Acoustic Guitar Mag," doing his own fingerstyle compositions. Todd Pickering performed his songs of nature with fingerstyle accompaniment. Finally Simon Russell had a set of his own on keyboards and vocals.

It was really a pleasure to be able to take in an acoustic guitar show in a comfortable environment and drive home in 10 minutes. I'm looking forward to the next event.

Fran

Aloha Fran,

Thanks for telling us about the Woodsong series. I met Chris last August at the Beamer Aloha Music and Dance Camp.

Chris plays some real nice slack key and has written some pretty complex fingerstyle compositions. Great guy. Wish I could have been there too.

Aloha,
Andy
