I'm planning a fundraiser for the Redwood Mountain Faire, and here is my concept. Turning a really nice restaurant in our town, named Scopazzi's, into a Honolulu Nightclub, around the Swing era. The last time I did this was 2 years ago and we called it Club Waikiki. I decorated it with Hawaiian decorations, tropical plants, etc.

I would just like to give it a slightly different flavor this time, but need to learn more about that Swing era in Waikiki. What songs were played? Was it mostly big bands? An obvious piece to have the band play is "Swingtime in Honolulu", but what other songs were popular? This Swing era was just slightly before my time.

I think I might drive my 40 Chevy there and park it in front, maybe get some of the other vintage car owners to bring theirs. Just to start off the fun.

Any ideas that you artistic, musical fun-lovers can send my way, I'll appreciate greatly!

E Julie,
Look at Bill Tapiaʻs repetoire. And ask George what he dances to when heʻs got his suspenders on. Bob could give you the ultimate low down on the era, including what chords they were likely to use.
You go girl! How cool is that??
